Poster: A snowHead

I'm planning a weeks skiing for next year on 27th March. Any views on what price/availability might be for the week before Easter for late deals? There will only be 2 of us, so as long as theres snow, we'll go.
Anyone picked up good deals during this week in the past? I just need some reassurance that I will be able to pick something up if I hang on until 1 or 2 weeks before the trip.

Drluvski, Our kids are on holiday that week, as are most of the schools around here. It may be cheaper and easier to find something if you can go the week before.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Drluvski, I've had a couple of Easter bargains in the past, but usually for the second week, commencing Easter Saturday or Sunday.

skichampcouk, Restricted to either wc 27th or the week after as I'm a teacher. I would love to be able to go the week before on lovely quiet slopes

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Drluvski, Can you not take yourself out of school for a week.
Your parents might get a fine however.

Drluvski, Have skied loads of times over the Easter break, I used to go for two weeks but can now only get one week away.
The second week is invariably quieter except for the weekend itself. It is also usually significantly cheaper. Althouhg you expect the snow to deteriorate fast at the end of the season I have often found the snow better the week after Easter. I am not sure why, possibly april snow showers and quieter slopes.

We're almost full for that week now - seems very popular as it's school hols but a lot cheaper than 1/2 term or New Year. If you really want to go then I'd be tempted to bite the bullet and book now (having tracked down an early booking discounts that might be up for grabs of course). You'll amost certainly get "something" one or two weeks before but you could have to make big compromises - bear in mind a reasonable chunk of capacity has been cut out of the Tour Operator market for this winter.

Think I'm goint to opt for booking now. Managed to get flights, studio apartment and transfer for £400 each. Staying in Flaine. This year prices seem to be cheaper in the first week of our Easter holidays. Might be that Easter falls in the second week this year?

Drluvski,
That seems a bit expensive for that type of accomodation a week before the main school hols..............I'd bet you would get a catered chalet or 1/2 board hotel for that price if you wait till say, Feb.
Good luck

Mitchell, It is a DIY trip, and I've costed in ski carriage. 1/2 board would be good though. Its a tempting idea to hang on and see what I could get on a late deal.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Mitchell, some schools break up that week, so it's peak

School hols in Manchester start on 27th March, so should be peak, but the price of the Studio in FLaine jumps from 250 Euros to 520 Eros for the following week. I suppose thats because its the week Easter Sunday falls in.

You know it makes sense.

Having done a similar exercise in previous years the "book now" idea is a good one.
What I found is that the real issue is getting your bum on a seat on the plane....accomodation and crowds when you get there is not an issue, getting there and back is, particularly if you are flying from somewhere which is not London Gatwick

malcolm1, Thats pretty much what I've decided to do, book now. I remember seeing lots of late deals last year but mainly from Gatwick or Heathrow. I think £400 is a reasonably good price. Also would like to know were I'm going. Think Flaine will have good snow in late March.
