Poster: A snowHead
|
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on where to hire a well maintained pair of skis in Tignes Val Claret (for Jan 2010)?
I have seen reviews of Ski Republic on Snowheads and that they are great for intermediate skis but not necessarily for high-end skis. I'd like some skis with edges...
(My ideal ski is a Rossignol B3)

Snowy, I have had good demo skis from Favre Sport, I haven't hired for a whole week though.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks rjs. They don't look too pricey - 100 euros for 6 days.
I realise that demoing is guaranteed to get me better skis but it'll be hard work demoing for 6 days without them getting suspicious that I didn't actually want to buy. Therefore, I'd rather just get some decent rentals instead (unless it's the norm to 'demo' skis for a week!).

ski republic will be better value for you, go for something other than the base level and if they are not sharp then ask for a sharper pair, pretty sure they will sort something... RossM may be along soon, he was involved in their set up a couple of years back

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Sport 2000 in Val Claret is very good. There is a lad called Roman whos been there about 7 years who knows his stuff. I seem to think they were reasonable value too.

use snowrental.net in advance for a good discount.
A friend hired last time we went to VC and the kit was good.
That was sport 2000 I think

CEM, thanks.
I thought perhaps I could complain if the skis looked a bit old, bashed and blunt but then I'm not sure if I could get my money back if they had nothing better in stock to let me hire.
I realise the week of 9th Jan wouldn't be the most popular ski week in the alps, but then I've been caught out before with shoddy equipment.
It would be good to hear from RossM if they plan to get in new equipment for the 09/10 season and if his colleagues would be prepared to give the edges a sharpen if I asked nicely.

If conditions are good then they will likely hand out good skis, ie new for the season, but it they aren't then they will try and hold them back, IME
