Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Vignette for Austrian motorway - places to buy

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
There have been a few posts about where to buy the vignette for motorways before getting into Austria. Was looking myself and found a useful list of fuel stations, on the borders of Austria, that sell the vignettes http://www.asfinag.at/docs/vignettenvertriebsstellen/Ausland.pdf

Handy list. I get Austrian and Swiss (but not Slovenian) ones from local ADAC shop.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

During winter I use the website of asfinag (the Austrian highway operator) as a nice source because of their webcams. Especially the "Tauernautobahn" (webcams at the foot of the Obertauern pass) and the "Phyrnautobahn" (around Bosruck, Schober pass) give a good overview about possible snow falls (= new powder).

Does anyone know if I can buy the Austrian vignette ahead of time and get it posted to my UK address? I am driving out for the 2nd week of easter to Stuben.

kitenski, I don't think you can - and that may be a little over organising... just creating another thing to remember to bring and forget!!

It takes seconds to buy one from the petrol station... most with 200k from Salzburg sell them.

One bit of advice.... stick the vignette on the window with cellotape... don't use the actual sticker bit as it is almost impossible to get off!

flangesax, not had a major problem with the Austrian ones, but Slovenian ones just break into 1000 pieces, with loads of gooey glue and you need a scraper to get the "not valid" words off the screen.

flangesax, I use a razor blade in a holder to remove mine at the end of each year. Works a treat. cost 2 Euros in Obi! Works best when the windscreen is freezing cold funnily enough! snowHead

The autobahn service areas in Baden-Württembourg and Bavaria sell the vignette - €7.90 for 10 days currently. It has to be placed in the middle of the windscreen or top left so the scanners can "read" it. Unfortunately sellotaping it is illegal and a "jobsworth" could do you for it. You will either be using the A96 or the A7 to get into the area for Stuben, so the Autobahn service area on the A96 near Lindau/Wangen will be the best best. On the A7 the nearer you get to Füssen, the better the chances you have of being able to buy one.

Not all the garages/petrol stations sell them in Austria by the way. I was caught out this year and had to find one that actually did sell them. My favourite cheap diesel seller does not sell vignettes.
