Poster: A snowHead
|
We are booked to stay at Camping L'Escales in Grand Bournand, arriving Christmas Eve and leaving New Years Day. We will be in our fully winterised motorhome. Has anybody else done anything like this? If so, what's the craic? Are the slopes open on Christmas Day? Is there a local restaurant in the town etc.

hi wendygoinggetstough and welcome to s
I have absolutely no experience of motor homes in the alps but you can rest assured the slopes will be open for you to enjoy some skiing before (or after) your turkey on Christmas Day!

wendygoinggetstough, weclome to snowheads, like the tag.
As RogerC has suggested everyting (pretty much) is open in French ski resorts on xmas day - you might find the odd shop or two closing a little earlier on xmas eve however.
You might be interested in this site I found when doing some surfing the otherday - not much content yet but looks like a good resource - http://www.motorhomeski.com/

wendygoinggetstough, welcome to Snowheads. That sounds great. There are quite a lot of threads about Le Grand Bornand - and one or two SHs who have apartments there. You can rest assured that there are restaurants!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I forgot to say - please write a report about your trip - there are not too many reports about trips in motorhomes but quite a few people who are interested.

wendygoinggetstough, Hi and welcome
There was a snowhead that did it last year sleeping in a car some nights
If you do a search you should be able to find it some where
Should be a dodle in a winterised motorhome this site http://www.motorhomefacts.com has a fair bit about dealing with the cold as some makes are better than others at winterising their vehicles
Be wary of external waste water tanks and any gas or water pipes that are plumped under the vehicle
Seen a fair few motorhomes in the past but prefer the comforts of a hotel for my skiing

We'll be there that week too (Dec 20 to 27) in a nice warm apartment mind....
I expect that as has been said business will be pretty much as usual in spite of Christmas.

Don't worry, we'll be nice and warm. We have warm air central heating, a hot water supply, a gas fire and an electric heater. Apparently the camp site has a drying room, a heated indoor and outdoor pool with a jacuzzi - If all else fails, we will try and find your apartment!
