Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where to go - March 22nd 2010

Looking for suggestions as to where to go for my 30th birthday celebrations next year. I think with going on the proposed date, I'll just miss the Easter Holidays (can anybody confirm this)? Would like somewhere quite lively and obviously quite high, as would like to see some snow nearing the end of the season. Fully catered Chalet or hotel accomodation is preferred. And solely Europe. Any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

30? Google kiddies' holidays. Madeye-Smiley

Failing that, try Saas Fee.

That's 7 weeks before the end of the season in Tignes, Val Thorens and Chamonix (Grand Montets). I also think Zermatt will be open until at least early May.

They should all have great snow in late March but, then again, so should the majority of ski areas. Even the lower areas of Austria, such as those in the Ski Amade region, have extensive snowmaking and will be worth a visit then.

If it was my choice for a lads' trip I would go for Austria - as off-slope activities (hiccup) will be much more affordable. For example, you can expect to pay €3.50 - €4 a pint in Austria versus €6 - €8 Shocked a pint in France... You can't go far wrong if you choose Mayrhofen.

And yes - your trip will be the week before the Easter hols.

Hi
try this. Get an easy jet flight to Innsbruck. Stop in a city centre hotel, on offer, Irish bars, casino, aussie bars and pole dance'
In the morning use the free ski bus system to take you to one of six ski resorts (between 1/2 to 1 hour away)
Have a great time. wink

barthez1980, I would agree with the suggestion of Mayrhofen for one good possibility.

As others have said, that isn;t really late in the season, and while there is no such thing as guaranteed snow, it is likley that all the main resorts will still have good coverage.

The Ski Welt would be another good ski area, but not as "lively" as Mayrhofen, although I believe Soll is not bad on that score.

Depending on budget, Ischgl is another with a good reputation (hmmm - can you see a theme regarding country here? )

Second that. Saalbach, Ischgl and Mayrhofen good options too. I'm biased towards St Anton though as I've found my valhalla wink Stick to Austria if you want lively. Ischgl and St Anton will still have excellent snow then

Happy 30th for March !
2 suggestions - Selva Gardena in Italy (really great skiing and a few cool bars), one downside is that its a bit of a trek from the airport or Morzine in France on the Portes du Soleil - huge ski area & great nightlife.

barthez1980, Chalets aren't so popular in Austria but St. Anton is a bit of an exception. If money is no object go to St. Anton or Ischgl (my personal favourite), expensive for Austria but still cheaper than the French mega resorts. Haven't been to Saalbach but from other snowHead seems the sort of place you might be looking for. Apart from that I would also recommend Mayrhofen. Good value, decent skiing, good nightlife and reasonably priced and the snow should still be good. Whatever you do, make sure its in Austria.
