Poster: A snowHead
|
My better half needs a confidence building week early December, she missed a year last year and is feeling insecure about venturing back onto the slopes. She's just at the stage where if her confidence is knocked then thats going to be the end of it and I'll have to fight to get two trips a year. She's not bad for a beginer but needs to loosen up and let her speed build a little. She particularly liked grandvillaria (Soldeu), but what are the schools like. Me I'll be happy anywhere where I can get another week on skis in, except maybe Bulgaria but am prepared to be advised otherwise. Any suggestions on where to go and where to stay greatly appreciated. Thanks

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

BillyJohnn, welcome to Snowheads. I think more important than where to go is for her to get some decent lessons. Do you live anywhere near any of the indoor slopes in the UK? If so a couple of lessons before you go may help. How much has she skiied?

Got to be Les Deux Alpes and our very own Easiski I would think (www.easiski.com) or send her a pm. LDA will keep you busy in early December and Charlotte (easiski) is about as good as it gets at confidence building as well as making sure that the only early habits your other half picks up are good ones.

BillyJohnn, welcome to snowHeads!
If you're vaguely near Hemel Hempstead I would recommend a session there at the indoor snowdome. We have snowHeads meets there once a month and 2 snowHeads, rob@rar and skimmottaret are qualified instructors who hold coaching clinics there - I think they're planning to do one specifically for nervous/novice skiers so watch out for details of that http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewforum.php?f=31 . Of course, you don't need to come along to a snowheads do, you can go at any time and get some coaching.
For resorts how about Obertauern? http://www.obertauern.com/en/winter/home/ There are some really nice gentle runs, it's quite high so relatively snow-sure and there are some lovely hotels so your OH can enjoy the whole holiday. I stayed at the Hotel Schneider - really nice http://www.schneider.at/englisch/index.html
