I know there are probably loads of posts on here regarding this subject but i will post this one . looking to buy a good second hand one will probably use the good old Ebay. now then i am a big lad 6ft 1'' and nearly as wide lol 17 1/2 stone so would need quite a wide one, length wise i have ridden between 160 to 165 but prefer 160. Just fed up of renting poor quality stuff then having to mess about for a couple of hours getting my stance right having forgotton my fav settings. Broke my arm boarding in december so a bit nervous about going again but have done a couple of hours at chill factore and blew a few cobwebs away.
Any help welcomed

Buying second hand makes it difficult to recommend a board as we don't know whats available. Best to select a few and post for opinions. Also determine the type of riding you will be doing and where.

andybabes, the fish is a fairly specialised board, it'ss designed to be a comprimise between a powder board and a piste board, with a taper and about 30mm or so setback. if you're just bashing blues and reds an all mountain board would be a better bet.

andybabes,
Hi andy, I'll get straight to the point, the fish is a helluva board but its not for you. a 160 fish is designed for a medium sized rider, if you wanted something like a fish, at 17 stone, you'd be wanting to look at a 165+... even something as big as a 175 if you are wanting a powder board, which is what the fish is. I think you would be much more at home on something like a nitro team 162 or volkl squad 163. These are both high end all mountain boards which are stiff enough for you do what ever you want on them where ever you want. On a smaller rider, these boards would be difficult to handle in inexperienced hands because they are so much board. They both have a lot of pop and will bite back if you dont have the power and strength to put back into them. with the power that you have behind your weight and size, the fact that they have more pop and punch to them will work in your advantage. I would go for the squad over the team, the volkl is a sick board, you wont see many of them around any more, off the top of my head i think the squad is slightly wider too, to accomodate large feet and give you slightly more surface area for a better float.
you can find both boards here...

I used to work for this company, I dont anymore but i still direct people to them because they are very good, they are cheap and all the boards are unridden but past season. most of the boards are high end boards because these are the boards that dont sell as well as midrange and beginner boards.
check them out, I hope this helps.

i notices that of the two boards you recommend the volkl its £60 more is it a lot better?
|
andybabes, age differences. That team is a few seasons old imo. The volkl is possibly last seasons.

It doesn't really matter much mate. Technology does change but mostly its the designs that are significant. I rider like me or you would not notice the small tech changes on most boards unless its something radical like reverse camber. As jayke said I believe a 162 is better for you to. Why not go to a snowdome and test a couple of boards?

yeah most changes are graphics, rockers and flat camber makes a huge difference, graphics do not, unless you're a must have the newest whore like me.

andybabes, in which circumstances will you be needing to use the bag? travelling to resort by air? rail? car? travelling by public transport/car to the domes/dryslopes?
if travelling to resort by air or train, i suggest getting a wheelie like the dakine hi- or lo-roller. there are non-wheelie options but the can become cumbersome being carried over the shoulder all the time.
if you're just planning to go to the domes/dryslopes by car or public transport, i suggest getting a board sleeve type bag instead of the wheelie type.
hope it helps.
