Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

No more flights from Dublin to Salzburg or Friedrichshafen !!!

We usually snowboard in Austria flying direct from Dublin into Salzburg, but now both Aer Lingus and Ryanair have taken Salzburg off their flight plan!
No airline offers direct to Innsbruck so we are totally screwed, Munich is an option but they have hiked their prices for xmas as usual.
We are going to go in through Zurich this xmas as its pretty reasonable, we have boarded in Laax this year and it was amazing, would love to do some more of Switzerland - has anyone any recommendations? Or does anyone know of an easy way to get to Austria ie Serfaus/ Solden from Zurich?
Sorry for long question!

IIRC the trains from Zurich into Austria are quite good & frequent. Take a look at www.sbb.ch or www.oebb.at

snow09bride, it's not a long post! Welcome to snowHeads. Toofy Grin
I love the Parsenn area (Davos/Klosters) which is very easy to get to by train from Zurich. It's a huge - and beautiful - area, with lots of variety. However, I'm not a boarder and I'm not sure how good, generally, the area is for boarders, perhaps one will be along soon, or you could post your question again in the Snowboarding forum. Certainly, there's a very long run from the top of the Parsenn to Klosters which is great for skiers, but not popular with boarders on account of having a couple of flattish sections; but I can't remember that being typical of the whole domain. Sorry - hopefully somebody more clued up than me will be along in a minute.

Thanks Elizabeth, we used the trains alot this year, had 4 weeks off in march, but it was just the two of us so it was fine, but at xmas we will be going with at least two other couples who are not into the whole planes trains and automobiles!
Hurtle, we may just just go ahead with Davos, reviews are fab- but just wondering if its a kinda ponsy place?

No, it has that reputation (as does Klosters, because of Charlie Boy I guess) but really isn't. It's a big town, with some posh hotels and glitzy shops, but that's not all that's on offer by any means. When I last went to the area - January last year - by far the majority of punters seemed to be Swiss and although there were some Hooray Henries in evidence, they were few and far between! Didn't see many snow-bunnies at all, or bling-festooned Russians, but then I was there in low season, so maybe my experience wasn't typical.

snow09bride, I know you can take the train from Zurich to St Anton, so undoubtedly the line will continue through to Innsbruck and it could be that there is a stop before Innsbruck that is at the start of the valley where Serfaus is - I'm pretty sure that they are reasonably close as the crow flies

Hi boabski- it looks like Serfaus is close to Landeck which there is a direct train from Zurich.
Thanks for all of the ideas!

snow09bride, presume you have looked into a cheapie from Dublin to London Gatwick or maybe Stansted and then another carrier to Innsbruck?

snow09bride, Knew it would be somewhere close. A lot of the resorts tend to be in valleys that feed into the main Inn valley. I'm guessing it should take around 2.5/3 hours by train from Zurich to Landeck. Train is good. Have used it a couple of times when at Oberlech and St Anton when coming from Friedrichshafen. FYI if heading to Landeck, Salzburg airport might be just as easy as Zurich but depends on flights from Dubberland

snow09bride, Welcome to snowHead s.

Let the train take the strain. I would do as Lou, says get a cheapie to Stansted or Gatwick and then on to your destination. It is what we have to do down south!

snow09bride, FWIW Zurich is a fantastic airport and the station is right there so it's very very easy... Davos is a must and check out arlbergexpress.com for scheduled coach transfers into Lech and St Anton.

as you say Serfaus is also easy, with the trip up to resort on the postbus

Enjoy! Very Happy
