Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Soldeu in Andorra would probably fit the bill. The ski school is excellent and there is plenty to do of an evening - I went there as my first ever time skiing and cannot rate the ski school highly enough.

Agreed, that would be a good place for your partner's first ski holiday. One possible drawback is there might not be enough steeper terrain to keep you happy, although it's been a long time since I was there so I might not quite remember what the pistes and off-piste was like.

Yeah, Soldeu would be good for you, a really nice apres scene with some great bars and often live music. The ski area is pretty big too as it's connected up with the whole of Grandvalira (193km of runs). Take a look at www.soldeu-andorra.com for the low down on all the bars and restaurants. Last winter was superb snow too, and as jb1970 says, they have an excellent school.

Sounds like a very good place for Apres-Ski, but my Good Ski Guide says "There is little here to attract advanced skiers used to the Alps, but low-cost heli-skiing is available. The area is otherwise highly suited to beginners and second weekers...". Ski-school is highly praised ("a reputation as one of the best in Europe") with a majority of the teachers native English speakers, plus there are two creches. Scenery and town are said to be nice and nightlife good for any age-group.
The resort is linked by lifts to another - Pas de la Casa - but my 2003 book says that due to a traditional feud there is very bad co-operation in the operation of the dual lift-pass with people who cross the ridge often ending up paying twice. It might be well to ask locals about the current situation (or does anyone on here know if it has been sorted?).

The family feud was sorted several years ago, and since the 2003-04 season the area of Grandvalira has existed linking Porte des Neiges, Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig, Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo & Encamp. There is a massive selection of runs including 22 blacks, one of which is "Avet" in Soldeu which is an FIS standard run used in the European cup.

graeme,
Mayrhofen. in Austria is worth a look, seem to tick all the boxes you're after. I have been their a few times and it’s really good. You could try an internet search for accommodation or just call Thomas Cook as lots of TO go there

Agree with Wayne. Mayrhofen is a fab resort too! I was there for fasching (a festival) a few years back and had a superb time, a real party atmosphere throughout the resort!

You'll either love Soldeu or hate it, I hated it. I wouldn't advise you to take the list. I just found it wasn't very challenging and there are quite a few flats.
