Things are getting "slightly" better
Interbank rate at 10:40am = 1134.76
but most TO's will get 0.05% less than this on forwards of over £50K
over 100k - should be able to get 0.03 - if you haggle enough ?
So looking at the TO rates you could buy €1,134 for £1,000
But how many Euro would you get (at 10:40am) depends on where you buy them
Euros From % Mark up(How much they charge)
1097 Post Office 3.39% 37.15 €
1078 Marks and Spencer 5.21% 56.15 €
1089 Thomas Cook 4.15% 45.15 €
1080 HSBC 5.01% 54.15 €
1088 Travelex 4.24% 46.15 €
1114 CrownCurrencyExchange 1.82% 20.26 €
Note figure have been rounded down to 2 points
The pound has gained against the Euro - so "may" be an idea to wait and see - but who the hell knows

Wayne, But it reached a similar level a few weeks ago then slipped back down to 1.11 again. Trend since March is upwards though. I think it's far too volatile to read too much into.

Wayne, I see that Crown Currency do foreign exchange by mail order I do like their rates but it's a novelty, posting £1000 worth of bank notes out to their customers. Without wishing to cast aspertions on the honesty of the Great British Postie, I see a number of disputes arising about whether or not the customer actually received the package.

red 27, suspect it would be courier, much easier to trace the person responsible if it goes missing. Though I do like the thought of the postie putting a wedge of money through my letter box.

Shimmy Alcott, Royal Mail Special Delivery according to their website. My postie always leaves such packages under my car and does the signature himself!
Wayne, blimey mate - calm down, it's a while to the ski season and all that 'points of resistance' guff if just chartists trying to sound like they can read the future

I've used CCE twice in the past with no problems and taken delivery on-time. Shimmy Alcott, If your postie is doing this - remember Special Delivery is not your normal postie, but Recorded Signed for is - then a strongly worded complaint should be made to Royal Mail. These are premium, signature bearing services for a reason and "leaving under the car" is unacceptable and this practice undermines the service.

I think I'm following it as closely as Wayne, due to the movements this week my mortgage will be for €3000 less than it was going to be for!!

Doesnt make a sodding difference if its at 1.10 or 1.13. The difference will be when it hits 1.2

What's so funny? I bet golden turds are legal tender. Would love to see the bank manager's face when you make a deposit.
Anyway, these calls for a rate of 1.2 lack ambition. Am dreaming of a return to the rates of summer of 07 when the pound ruled at about 1.5.

Ya but it won't go back to 1.4-1.5 because the pound was grossly overvalued at the time....

Timmaah,
We need to buy 1.5million Euros
1.10 to 1.13 = over £36,000 difference
Mind you 1.2 would be nice (over £110,000 difference)

Doesn't really matter what the value of the pound is.
Due to the sheer size of the EU it's more to do with what the value of the Euro is as the pound will float with all the other dosh from around the world against this.
It’s deff going to get dragged down by the PIGGS anyway but this will be compounded by Germany being buggered as it appears to be, so you never know we may see 1.4
Basic fact is the EU was a stupid idea, as it will never work from an economic stand point (the world is full of countries waiting to join the PIGGS and for some reason the EU wants to invite em in - V Strange) but fron my personal outlook its great coz I can work all over.

Would be over the moon if it were to get back to those levels........ but am being a realist... the sickening thing was at 1.40 I decided not to buy Euros but to wait for the return to 1.5!!

Guy on Sky News at lunchtime wasn't optimistic about significant improvemnts in £/€ rate. Due to the fact that Europe isn't taking the same anti-recessionary measures as UK/US, ie extremely low interest rate and quantitatve easing

I agree with the first five but I am not sure that Germany should be included. Despite its own problems it may be Germany that has to buy up all the junk treasuries to bail the others out.
