Hi All,
Thinking of going to Jackson Hole for a week at Christmas...although a bit put off by the 6-day lift pass price ($492 in 2008)..eek!
Haven't been before and would appreciate any advice on where to stay e.g. Jackson vs Teton Village and any hotel recommendations.
We are a party of 2!

we might be there too at Xmas. Staying on hill or in town is fun - buses are good and Jackson is a great cowboy town. I'm looking at the condos at the base of Snow King in town. Shuttles to Jackson, walk to the King, and shuttles to Targhee last year at least. Looked a good deal.

chrismountaintracks, I can remember stoatsbrother posting something about a lovely place he stayed in last time he was in Jackson Hole, but I can't find the thread. He's not posting at the moment, but he might respond to a PM. He knows JH very well, I think.

chrismountaintracks, if you want to get up and ski a la European style I'd stay in Teton Village, I stayed there over new year with my wife and it was fine. There were enough pubs/restaurants for 10 days, and we got the bus into Jackson one night, and to a mexican on the main road another.
I'd prefer to bus for food in the evening than bus for snow in the morning!!

Just beware that it can get very cold at Christmas. I was there a few years ago and it was below -40. Needless to say the resort shut the lifts

dsoutar, below -40C is very rare indeed. But hey, it's skiing, cold is good. Wyoming is a cold place in winter.

gortonator, We stayed at The King in Jan this year, and thought it was pretty good. Buses are frequent (and effectively start at the King, so you get a seat) and it's nice to be able to get to Jackson of an evening. It was also convenient for some consolation night-skiing when our flight got cancelled due to heavy snow 
Greg's right though that it's a bit of a faff in the morning. If you want to be at the front of the tram queue when they open the maze at 07:30 then stay at the Village. If you're not that bothered then go wherever you can find nice/cheap accommodation.

ChrisWo, thx - sounds even more attractive. I don't mind an early start, but even if I was at Teton Village I wouldn't be in tram line at 7.30. Bridger gondala 20 mins before opening, and take the pow that the powderhounds ignore for 2 hours is more my style. Actually always stayed at Teton Village, but you miss out on Jackson doing that and it is a great town.
Do they run buses to Grand Targhee from the King too?

gortonator, that was our style too...though we didn't have too many epic powder days  Might try it again next year!
On the bus to GT - yep, if you're thinking about the shuttle bus that includes lift pass in the price (not sure if there's a public transport alternative we didn't hear about). We booked through Snow King reception the day before, and the bus turned up on time the next morning. From memory that one started at the King too before doing a few othe rpickups around town, so you have to get up slightly earlier than others but get your pick of the seats.
