Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

How to pay a medical bill (France)

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

During a half term skiing trip we had cause to visit the hospital in Bourg St Maurice, with our 5 yr old, nothing to do with skiing, he had managed to get a key stuck on his finger!

Anyway when we visited we presented our EHIC cards and insurance documents and recieved excellent promt treatment and nurse/ doctor removed key without too much hassle, son recieved calpol and we were sent off on our way!

Anyway I thought no more of it until a bill arrived by post, and to be honest I have no idea how much is due and how we would pay. there is a box entitled A Payer ( i am presuming this is how much we owe) 22,56 can someone calrify is this 22Euros 50 cent or 2250 euros ?

Also how do I pay can i get a postal order in euros and send this or is there any easier way.

Many Thanks

A comma in French is equivalent to our decimal point so your bill is €22.56. You should be able to pay by international money order or maybe even by debit or credit card. I'm assuming your insurance won't cover this as it's such a small amount?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

fizz, 22, 56 is 22 euros and 56 cents. Our insurers dealt with my husband's medical bills, so I am not sure how you will pay it, all the bills went to the insurer. A payer is definitely the amoutnt to pay, but surprised they didn;t charge this on the spot.

Pay by BIC/IBAN transfer - if you have a midland's euro account it should be free.

Anyway it's 22 euros 56 cents.

fizz, what does the payment slip say that you need to return with your payment? It is normally for French bank accounts, but may tell you how to pay/

I must be a right numpty, I thought the EHIC cards meant we didn't have to pay...why else would we need them anyway. I'm obviously really lucky because I've never needed to pay/visit a Doc (did see a Doc once in Sardinia but he just waved me off when I asked about payment).

fizz, I have a feeling that you can write a "normal" cheque in Euros now since the banks got rid of Eurocheques. It might be worth checking wtih your bank.

HH, I think that the EHIC means that you don't have to pay as much. Even if they entitle you to the same deal as locals, that wouldn't necessarily be completely free care.

HH,

What richmond says. EHIC card means you'll pay what the locals would have to pay (if anything at all..) instead of paying for the actual cost of the treatment..

If you don't have an account in France you may be able to find a friend or a friendly snowHead with a French account to pay it via CHAPS.
Assuming they do not write it off or take the payment from a credit card when you ring.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Paying it via CHAPS costs £30 doesn't it? Send 'em euro notes in the post?

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Hi, we had the same. A piddly little bill turned up at home a few weeks after our return - less than 20 euros at the time.. We ignored it for a bit (wondering the same how to pay?), then just bunged some euros in an envelope and sent it back. Job done. Little Angel
