Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I saw this report on the website http://www.meteo-alpes.fr/prevision-meteo-savoie.html this morning. Very unpleasant experience for the poor man's wife. Sad

According to Hoppo translate, so any errors are entirely mine:

Quote:

Monday afternoon, an English couple skiing in the Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe domain. Having descended the red piste "Des Gueux", the lady turned around to find her husband had disappeared. She went back up, but was unable to locate him. She then went to notify the piste patrol. The pisteurs rapidly located the (unfortunate), and a doctor was only able to confirm death, by natural causes of the man in his sixties. His body has been taken to the funeral parlour in Ugine, the Ugine police are proceeding in their (forensic enquiries).

That's the way I want to go... But of course a shock for his poor wife, especially having to make all the arrangements in a foreign country

red 27, yes, let's hope she had really good insurance. My OH is in his sixties, he has already had a triple bypass, has various other health problems and that could really quite easily have been him. We ski there a lot.... in fact we were there on Monday. I have noticed more English speakers in that area over the last few years, but there's not a huge amount of English spoken, which won't have made the poor woman's job any easier.

pam w, oh god yes, imagine having to deal with insurance matters at a time like that... hopefully relatives can come out to assist.

Doubtless your OH will live to be 128 an still be skiing. Very Happy As for having a triple bypass - yikes! He's had all 3 hearts bypassed?? (I am not a doctor!)

red 27, 3 arteries grafted. Out of 4. You're probably right; it'll be me who'll drop dead on the slopes (as long as it's not any time soon, that would suit me fine).

pam w, well, whenever it is let's hope we go in the mountains, just after a perfect alpine lunch, under bluebird skies and having finally nailed how to zip-line moguls - as opposed to getting run over by a milk float or mauled by a mutant goat! snowHead

It's not nice standing at the bottom of a piste wondering why your hubby hasn't turned up.

 You know it makes sense.

I suppose it is relatively painless way to go.

Similar to the fatal accidents in other skiing resorts reported around the world the French appeared pretty forthcoming with the verdict before the actual cause has been established. The translated text suggested the person passed away by the natural cause while the police was still proceeding with the(forensic enquiries) which I believe would be autopsy. Would this be an attempt to mitigate the bad image for the resort?

I don't know what "constatations d'usage" are, but I suppose any unexpected/sudden death, in any circumstances, requires further investigation - even if you die in your bed in the UK, if you haven't seen your doc for a week or so they don't just sign a form. The fact that a death appears to be by a "natural cause" doesn't necessarily mean you don't need to find out what natural cause - there are quite a few different things which it might be.
