Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Sierra Nevada Accident !!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi All, Just though I would share our experience of the accident in the sierra nevada resort on monday 2 march.
My wife and I were on the chairlift and had just left it for our first run of the day, slightly after 10am.

We skied only a short distance to hear a "lound boom" to then see half a dozen chairs collapsing into the ground.

I have to say immeadiate response was forthcoming with aid etc for the injured, BUT the station operators then switched the chairlift macines back on for a couple of seconds dragging the injured approx 2 or 3 meters before stopping again ( my wife skied down frantically trying to warn the officials ) of the accident as they couldn't see by sight alone )

In one report "sky news" said no one was seriously hurt and no one was taken to hospital ( not true ) we witnessed at least two "blood wagons" going down from the accident and a Helicopter was also called.

Some reports say that the "cable had snapped or jumped off the pylon" to be honest & we were there the whole wheel / roller assembly had shearred off the top of the pylon and was laying on the ground next to the crumpled chairs.

On a lighter note the snow conditions were fantastic although low cloud and some wind caused problems all week.[/b]
