Aksel Lund Svindal has made a fanatastic recovery after his serious crash last season, to win the men's super G in the Alpine World Cup. Svindal came second behind Werner Heel in the final super-G of the season to clinch the World Cup title in Are, Sweden. He is also in the lead in the overall men's World Cup standings, with only 2 races left. ...See: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/winter_sports/7939568.stm

Funny, although I don't begrudge Svindal winning, given his injury and subsequent return, I'd have loved to see Maier take it. Can't be too many opportunities for him now to run out with a WC win.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Looks like Svindal will win the overall title as there's only two races to go and he's 102 points ahead with the chance of picking up more points.

DB, Will be interesting though, Svindal may do OK in the GS but I don't think he will score highly, he also has no chance of taking points from the slalom - assuming he chooses to race. There is a significant possibility that he will score no more points
On the other hand as long as Benni doesn't bottle it he could quite possibly win or podium in both remaining events. As could Kostelic.
Cuche is unlikely IMO

robboj,
It's looking good for Raich in the GS at the moment but Raich doesn't dominate the slalom like he used to. I think it's a two horse race now as Ivica Kostelic was well off the pace in the first GS run. It will probably be decided in the last race which should make it more exciting.

DB, Fair point Raich's slalom has been poor this season by his standards.
Didn't realise the GS first run had happened, Svindal 13th, Raich 1st. Could be a big dent in those 102 points?
Was it 2 years ago in Lenzerheide when Svindal took it by coming 15th in the Slalom after skiing it like an ape on speed and Raich straddled?

robboj,
Yes Svindal & Raich fought two years ago for the titel.
If Cuche & Ligety fall back a couple of places while Raich holds the lead today then Raich could secure the GS crystal. If Raich wins today it will be interesting to see what his team mates (Herst, Pranger and Matt) do for him in the Slalom. Formula one tactics perhaps?

Congrats to Cuche for winning the GS title
Congrats to Raich for picking up the race win and 100 points, leaving him only two point to pick up in the final slalom race
