Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Deaths in the Alpes...

I was reading on PlanetSKI a very intresting article about how a lot of ski websites very much focus on the deaths that occur in the mountains - Read here

And on the other side of the coin this story about a snowboarder dying in cliff fall was very sad - read here

ben.clatworthy, The inevitability of life is death, we really should be far more prepared for it . . but we're not. The past century was a weird one; Incredible advances in medicine, allied social causes and from that evolving social support systems that may possibly achieve a zenith as a result of unrestrained Capitalism's present nadir,
As a result we tend to subsume the expected passing of those that achive their three-score years and ten, we ignore the mundane in road kill and yet we laud the bizarre and in this case the familiarity with our sport to be drawn to voyeurism .

I think it's odd that we are fixated by these tragedies, perhaps because we have an interest in the activity yet the mainstream press and as such the great unwashed that don't give a fig about skiing, find our recreational sport so 'non-mainstream' that a tragedy becomes interesting solely because of a vicarious interest in an unfamiliar activity.

Two sides of a coin indeed Confused

Masque, I can't believe you got zenith and nadir into the same sentence. You some kind of astronomer or something?

 snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

I don't think any activity we choose to partake in is any more dangerous than it has ever been. We just have to deal with a bunch of muppet journalists who can't be arsed to do their job properly and find some news so they sensationalise accidents and plaster them over every medium. Really bugs me.
