Hi
We are going skiing next Feb Half Term can anyone suggest a good value resort (not Bulgaria/Romania/Slovenia)for food and alcohol. Quite happy to make the most of happy hours that may be on. Just don't want to be paying 5 euros for a large beer.
Need a decent sized resort as we are a group of all levels with teenagers.
Suggestions gratefully recieved. Need to start saving now.

Folgarida in Italy might suit what you want.

Most resorts in Italy offer good value, if you go to resorts that are a little bit off the bitten track they are v cheap, just back : glass of wine or an expresso 1 euro. More frequented resorts like the Dolomites a little more expensive, but nowhere near so as France

Livigno might be suitable -it has a duty free status -someone has posted a report in the resort review section.

michelle227, Ski Amade Austria, 45 mins from Salzburg, large beer = €3.30 - €3.50

Jasna, Slovakia. €1.8 for a large beer max, 10 euros for two course evening meal. OK, it's not the Alps, but plenty of slopes except for beginners and scope to let the teenagers roam. Hotel Zahradky, or attached s/c.

Well of the resorts suggested so far, Livigno qualifies, as does Ski Amade, Folgarida, Saalbach Hinterglem, other small Italian resorts, but Sauze d'Oulx may be marginal - in that area a large beer was 5 euro last winter, as was Cervinia. So as long as the OP avoids France, and the more expensive Swiss/Italian resorts she should have no problem.
Given the criteria stated I would be mainly looking at Austria, unless smoking in restaurants offends, in which case Italy - but Italy seems cheaper further east, Milky Way / La Thuile / Cervinia / Courmayeur seem closer to French prices, further east closer to Austrian.

michelle227, the best value place we have been to in terms of skiing, prices etc has been Soll in the Ski Welt Austria. It doesn't have much in the way of activities other than skiing but it has great apres ski and about 250km of skiing. We are off to Scheffau next week which is just down the road so I'll let you know what the prices are like.

michelle227, I was in Soll last week 3.20 for a large beer. Cans of beer in supermarket 60 cents, bottle of decent wine 6 euro

Probably Paddy's right next to the slopes for 5-7pm.
I can't remember whose happy hour was at what time, later, but you could spend quite a bit of the night in a happy hour, with a bit of planning. There's no where that's not good but some bars are busier at certain times.
Late night its mental in The Underground bar. This is by far the best place but its empty until late. The best night is Friday when all the reps and chalet staff are there too. Big party night, absolutely packed, music at max volume and everyone dancing. Great fun.

michelle227, Why not try Canada Beer $5 a pint cheaper off the ski hills and $1.75ish to the pound lift passes around $60 and catered chalets from £199 per person. We booked flights with Canadian Affair this year for £299 per person inc taxes. Oh yeah and the snow is usually much better
