Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Pic du Jaillon - NE Couloir

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Last week while I was skiing at Arvieux with my little boy I spotted a line on this peak that I wanted to ski. I couldnt find a topo for it and the locals think it hasnt been skied. So Hubert and I headed up to have crack at it.

It was quite tricky to find a way through the lower rock band and we ended up farther right than planned, finding little gullies like this

Coming out of which we spotted another couloir rising steeply above us, so we decided to have a crack at that instead.

It was quite steep at mostly 45 and rising to 50 for the last 100m. The very last 10m was to rocky to ski so we scrambled up without our skis.

The descent was perfect hard chalky snow, Hub giving it some tele action

before picking our way through the bottom again

Hiking up steep slopes - the reason why chairlifts were invented!! Smile

Wow! Looks like a mega-hike. Scarily steep - bet the views down were amazing and the thought of knowing it was a fresh line was awesome I bet?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Not bad, mostly stiff enough snow not to be swimming.

There was 1125m of ascent. 500m was skinning, then 625m was boot packing. It was a 3.5 hour round trip.

philingle, I found that my old Grivel 2F grampons fit great onto a ski boot. I need to get my skills up and start skiing some decent terrain. Very inspiring photos.... a beautiful day out.

So do my Grivel G12's which were at the bottom of the sac. I did regret not getting them out once I was half way up this rocky bit, but by then it was too late.
