Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Rossignol suspends ski production in fight for profitability

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
The new US-Australian owners of Rossignol skis have suspended production for two months until 1 April to clear unsold stocks and restore profitability to its factories.

The company lost 50 million Euros last year on a turnover of 270 million. Its owner since 1956 - Laurent Boix-Vives - sold the company to Quicksilver for 360 million Euros in 2005, but Rossignol was sold on to Macquarie Bank (Australia) and Jarden (US brands group) for 40 million, three months ago. The company was founded in 1907 by carpenter Abel Rossignol.

This report by Astrid Wendlandt from Guardian.co.uk

Look out for very good deals on skis in the coming months - this article suggests that several leading brands may be similarly overstocked at present.

Do ski manufacaturers churn volume out this time of year - surely they are in preproduction for next year? Sounds like all they are doing is not making until they have orders rather than producing speculatively based on forecast. Impact - new skis later into the shops next season, not necessarily bargains on this year's stuff?

I think it's a lot more drastic than that. The article above states:
Quote:
To stem losses, Rossignol has stopped producing skis, boots and bindings for two months until April 1 to get rid of unsold stock and avoid building up inventory, putting some 700 people, or almost half of its staff, out of work.
