Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi

I am travelling out to flaine next week, and the forecasts are saying that the winds will be between 25 and 30kmh, will this give us problems with lifts being shut???

Many Thanks

A wise man once told me: "If you don't like the weather in the mountains, wait 20 minutes"

Not sure where your getting that forecast from though, Metcheck.com doesn't show the wind getting above 9mph....

YES!!

The main DMC lift to the top of the Flaine bowl is regually shut in high winds. It is however a dual cable affair (some fancy engineering in it's day) and does keep going most of the time, but if windy up top it will close.

As also stated wrap up warm, as some of the chairs in Flaine are amonst the slowest in the the Alps!!

Great resort, don't miss the Ger's bowl for an excellent off piste area, and the restaurant at the lake down there has the most amazing vista of the lake and valley, with the occasional nutter to be seen doing serious off piste. Long slow (and very icy at the bottom) run out, but well worth it.

Have fun, I am most jealous as looking for a week myself at moment and Flaine is among my top 3 resorts.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

NO!!

DMC doesn't shut unless the winds are above 40kph. If by regularly you mean 2 days a season then i'd agree.

I'd also take issue with some of the lifts being slow. 2 of the lifts in the main bowl are slow and can be avoided the rest are pretty quick.

Agree with the gers bowl & restaurant advice. Long button lift out but well worth it.

Been to Flaine twice and never known the main gondola to be closed even in fairly diobolical conditions.

Have a great time - great resort !

I like Flaine but the queues into the DMC have always struck me as long!

The DMC was shut for one morning over Christmas, but then most everything else bar the drags was too. God's way of tellin us creakies to rest. Toofy Grin

Some [not all] of the lifts up to the ridge by comparison to some other French resorts with lots of fast quads are s-l-o-w IMV, but we liked that mellowvator experience as it gave you time to decide where to go next and take in the views. No queues there.

We had a really nice first trip over to Flaine - it is somewhere I would be more than happy to go back to again. christianmurray, I think is talking about the long run down to Sixt. Well worth a trip. Forgot the name. Embarassed

Have a great trip.
