Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Tahoe Ski Pass & Hotel Advice Please!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello

We are going to Heavenly at the end of March javascript:emoticon('Very Happy'). It will be our first time skiing in the US (v. excited!). We want to ski different Tahoe resorts over the week (we have a hire car booked).

Can anyone advise on the best ski passes to get and if it is better to buy online before we leave the UK?

Also, we're currently booked in the Mont Bleu Casino Resort. The last 10 posts on trip advisor (All Dec 08-Jan 09) are pretty poor. I'm thinking of changing to the Embassy Suites Resort or Hurrahs. If anyone has stayed at these and can offer advice I'd be so grateful.

Liz

ElizabethJ, Havent used any of those accom. as we stayed in Tahoe City, but you will have a great time Smile

All the resorts are different but all are great for different reasons. Not sure if a week is long enough tho, we wanted longer than our two Toofy Grin

Mont Bleu is the former Caesar's Palace IIRC, no idea whwther its better or worse than anywhere else.

You can get a Lake Tahoe interchange pass from UK tour ops or people like Ski American dream/ Ski independence which is basically a coupon book you can use at whatever resorts you fancy out of Heavenly, Kwood, Sierra, Alpine Meadows, Squawllywood & Flatstar. No Mt Rose or Homewood on it which ar enoce little hillls & often a bit cheaper for day tix.

Thank you Fatbob & Bones.

I think we'll definitely get the interchange pass and will book in advance.

Really wish we could get more time away! Really looking forward to skiing different resorts.

If you can get one of those coupon books I would do so - you need to get them before you go. We couldn't get one so we often had a bit of a run-around getting the cheap lift passes which wasted time, as not everywhere has the one you want.

We stayed in a nice little cabin booked through

who were very helpful.

Personally I wasn't crazy about Heavenly though it has some very pretty views, but I really liked Kirkwood and Sierra. I wished we could have got to more of the North Lake places, but snow closed the passes when we were there. Mustn't grumble though!! Smile

I'll throw a spanner in the works...

I'd buy passes on an adhoc / daily basis and plan where you go in advance around the offers they have locally. eg women ski free day. The interchange passes are not great value in Tahoe, especially if you ski some of the less mainstream resorts. Kirkwood for example.

You won't save that much so upto you.

All accom is fine you mention.

Enjoy ! Very Happy

I skied in Heavenly last year and bought my pass online before I went. However, I was a little Shocked when they posted it to me! I then had to remember to take it with me when we went.

Kirkwood is offering a mid-winter season pass valid till end of season for $259, this might bring about a retaliatory offer from Heavenly, so keep an eye out on the websites. Basically, 3 1/2 days would pay for that compared to the rack rate.

This site is a mine of info for cheap deals at Lake Tahoe........obviously more geared to the domestic US visitor but you may find something.

Mount Rose is a nice little area at the North end of the Lake and you can usually find a midweek deal of some kind for it.

Mt. Rose was 2 for 1 on Tuesdays, when we were there Smile

Alpine Meadows gate price was less than the voucher price of the Interchange Booklet, by about $6 or $7.

Sugarbowl also had cheaper day rates on a Tuesday.

There bargains to be had if you search a little Smile
