Get an area pass, Avoriaz is great bu very busy and sometimes feels like motorway traffic on some of the runs which can be very off-putting for beginners. If you get an area pass you can go to Les gets or Morzine both excellent resorts for beginners and not as crowded.

If they are beginners then are they really going to be able to get to Les Gets? or even ski down to morzine and want to take the bus across to the other lift
Don't waste their money - check with the ski-school what pass they recommend, I'd be surprised if they said more than just a morzine pass.
As a complete beginner boarder (which I assume they are) we didn't do much than the runs thru/around town in the week I was there some 10 years ago..

Depends on how quickly they're likely to learn as well - we went this year and a couple of our party were new to skiing apart from having taken some lessons at their local SnoZone. They were both skiing the easier blue runs with us by the end of the week.

Martone, Avoriaz is great for beginners, and intermediates, and they will only need the Avoriaz pass. Especially so at the end of March, I'd say, as links to the rest of the Portes du Soleil can be a bit dodgy latish in the season, and in four visits to Avoriaz we've only been able to ski down to Morzine once. Avoriaz is high so snow is pretty reliable, though the Boulevard des Skieurs can get a bit heavy in late afternoon if it's sunny. And yes, it can be crowded but it wasn't in early January - a lot depends on when British and French school hols are.
If snow conditions are rally great and your beginners get on really well you can always get an area pass for a day and go further afield, but I reckon there's loads in Avoriaz to keep you occupied for a week - nice blues and reds.
I like the architecture (sometimes described as 'brutal), which I think echoes the cliffs around. There are different levels in the village, and you can use the lifts in the apartment blocks to get up and down if necessary. Most places are virtually ski-in, ski-out even for beginners. No cars, but beware the horse-drawn sleighs and the electric utility vehicles. Good range of bars, cafes and restaurants and good prices, though not so good as before the pound took its nose-dive.
It's one of my favourite resorts, and I've skied quite a few.
