Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Someone was recently asking if this was possible, recieved a lot of negativity. Well in happy Valloire from 14 Mar to the 23 mar the tourist office have a deal on whereby for 383 Euro (357 quid?) you get sc accom, week lift pass, 6 half day lessons and ski eqmt hire. I reckon if 4 were travelling down in a diesel car using of peak ferry travel you could get there and back for 70 quid each (ish). So without beer we are getting quite close to the 400 quid mark, and if you do a big shop in Lidl before departing your food would be sorted! Not bad me thinks.......and Valloire is pretty nice to boot!

i know of an agent currently doing 1 week to Risoul from manchester or Stansted for £199. This includes monarch flights, coach transfer, 7 nights half board at Le Morgan hotel (was crystal last season, basic rooms but clean and food is of good standard). decent family hotel apparently, mainly positive independent reviews on trip advisor (7.5 out of 10), 2 mins from ski lift and ski school.
On top of that buy one get one free ski passes and ski hire . So well under £400, infact £300 per person if two travelling.
I've just booked for my daughter and myself.

The other guy was limited to 2nd to 9th Jan next year, but the Risoul package looks a great deal. Any clues as to the agent ?

Reading these threads makes my eyes water!

I've already gone over-budget this season and it's still three weeks until I hit the slopes! Entire budget was £800 and I've already spent £836 (£512 via TO for half board hotel inc. sole use supplement, flights and transfers, £175 lift pass, £62 ski hire, £45 airport car parking, £42 cattery). Not to mention a percentage of my annual travel insurance and the new boots and ski socks I've bought during the year...

There's no way I should be spending this sort of frivilous money when my livelihood is at risk...

What's the bare minimum spending money I could get away with? I'm thinking €50. No eating or drinking except in the hotel. After all, I'm going for the skiing, not to get wasted...

Did a long weekend with skiweekends.com to Meribel (staying down in Brides) for £330 including lift pass (Meribel valley only) and half board. Travel by coach from Victoria on Friday after work, got back Tuesday AM. 2 and a half days on the hill. A quick snow fix for a reasonable price.

Richard_Sideways, How was the coach trip? Personally i don't know if i could hack the over night coach as i'm a fussy sleeper, when i say fussy i mean i like to lie down! and if i'm over tired everyone would know cause i'd be Evil or Very Mad
I went by train to geneva last year and thought it was a great way to travel, worked out cheaper than flying (only cause we left it late to book) but we had dinner in Paris on the way home, had a few beers and played poker both ways, highly recommend it if flight prices a problem.

dlawless, I was a little aprehensive about the whole coach thing too, but was better than taking a long-haul plane somewhere in cattle-class. Paid the extra £25 to go for 'Business class' seats which was worth it in my book, Extra leg room and deeper recline. Slept ok on way, certainally ok enough to put in 4 and a bit hours on the hill. Some good recommends are a blanket, a proper pillow or cushion (they give you an inflatable travel one gratis) and a bottle of wine to take the edge off the sleep, (or a good swig of night nurse). Would do it again, probably will next year, Cham'x perhaps...

Our trip this year for 2 adults and 2 kids including absolutely everything I can think of (even UK petrol and parking at the airport) should come in about £1900 as long as the exchange rate doesn't go below 1.10

Doesn't include lessons as we don't take them and is helped by 2 kids rather than adults from a liftpass/ski hire point of view - but we are going to an apartment that would sleep 6-8 so if it were a bigger group the saving on accommodation would even out I would think.

Allow £1000 per week all-in and not starving yourself. Anything less and you are doing well. That is assuming you have to pay for travel, accom, food, lift pass and general on-slope and evening expenses

Thats £400 for the Travel and Accom, £200 for the lift pass, 50 eu a day for food and drinks and then stuff like taxis, car parking etc etc etc...

If you have numbers. self cater and stay in then you can knock holes in that, probably

We looked at a similar deal on lastminute.com. The only thing is that you've got a bit of a hike each morning to get to the slopes in Brides Les Bains, we read the small print and saw that even before the gondola ride up to Meribel, the lift station was a good few hundred meters away from the hotel. Doesn't sound much but when you've got concrete blocks attached to your feet (aka ski boots), a hangover (optional) and skis to carry...it's not fun... Wink

I personally would rather pay a little more and cut out the hike. But no doubt great for those on a really tight budget.

£400 would be awesome - mind you, I have sorted a trip for 12 self catering to ex Stansted to Samoens including transfers at the other end for approx £290pp on 7 March - it could easily have been less but we are under occupying the 3 apartments booked (max would be 20) by not using the lounge beds and a couple of lucky singletons get a double room to themselves. Allowing approx £80-100 for self catered food / booze pp for the week, the only thing that is really going to push it over is the lift pass. Oh, and the gear if you need it - I prebooked 40% discounted gear hire through intersport for those that need it (approx €69 for skis / board + boots).

I would second Richard_Sideways coach thing too - but then I'd have to as it was our sneaky weekend away to escape the madness of London / potential madness of the trip we are off on with the 10 mates in 19 days time!

Looking at this thread, my holiday doesn't sound that expensive and I don't think I'd have save anything by waiting until last minute to book. Catered holidays all seem to be above the £400 mark and then of course there are all the non-negotiable extras on top...

I don't feel so bad now. Still skint though obviously... Smile
