Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Resorts in the alps on the first weekend in April

Hi,

I'm wondering what would be a good resort to choose that late in the season. I've nothing booked yet and it will probably just be a long weekend, I'm just concerned about snow conditions, although it should hopefully not be a problem this year.

Any recomendations would be gratefully accepted.

Snow depths in April are at there deepest for most resorts above the lower slopes. Last season I was skiing in fresh powder at Zauchansee (Ski Amade, Austria) on 7th April at an altitude of between around 1000m - 2000m. I've skied heaps of fresh pow in Val d'isere as late as 5th May on season. Resorts to avoid are probably those that are mostly soft facing other than that take your pick.
