Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

More Snow for Northern Ireland

With the Met Office forecasting significant snow this evening this will be the 3rd "Snow Event" of the Winter although the hill tops have had more.

So far:

20/11/04 4-5 inches, lasted 2 days

25/12/04 6-7 inches, lasted 1 day

17/1/05 ???????

I would say this is more than normal for where I live on the Coast although the snow has been very short lived. There has been no significant cold snap yet, with very little frost.

johnboy, serious question....do any people x-country or otherwise make use of the snow on the hill tops? I'm on the coast here and with a dump of 30cm over the weekend people have been out on the local golf course on x-country skis....hate to add that we have over 2 metres on the ski slopes now snowHead

Mac46,

I occasionally get the skis out on our farm, but there isn't any "proper" ski-ing in Ireland

johnboy,

I think the ulster ski club used to take their portable briton lift up to moneyneaney in the sperrins when there was snow. I guess I last heard about that 10-15 yrs ago.

I also remember digging out the planks for a blast in barnetts park in Belfast about 20 years ago, and there were once reports of the ski club of Ireland out in the wicklow mtns.

mmmm maybe you're right - there isn't any real snow skiing in Ireland - you can always get the legs working on the plastic though rolling eyes

The BBC weather report came from NI this morning and it looked pretty wild, chucking it down with snow.

cardweg, Can you tell me any more about the Ulster Ski Club? Are they still going?

ise, That was on the Glenshane Pass, Elevation 1000ft. I was near the bottom of the pass this morning and there was a good 15 cm. Though it is really thawing now.

johnboy,

I'm afraid I don't know what became of the Ulster Ski Club. They used to have a tiny dry slope beside the Lisburn racquets Club, but it's apartments now.

Sorry can't help any more. Sad

There is so little here in NI for skiing..... Queen's University (the main uni here) doesnt even have a snowsports club/society! It is an absolute godsend to find snowheads..... it is the only way I can envisage finding a ski buddy!

All has thawed at low levels, but the Sperrins still appear to have a good covering and if it can hold it's snow to the weekend the hills could be in for a top up.

There is still some fairly large patches of snow above 400m in the Sperrins. Not bad considering it was 10 degrees yestarday.

johnboy, from my parents house, there's a great view of Slemish. I reckon if there was enough snow it would be a good black run down it...

Sorry John, but I was up at Mullaghcairn last night (1778ft according to the OS - highest bit of Tyrone I think) and unfortunatly it's all heather.
Maybe it was a closly huddled flock of sheep you seen Very Happy

The only chance anyone in Norn Iron is going to get to ski on snow this year is to do what I am and head of to Livigno (or somewhere) for a week.

Every time it has snowed in the past few years I normally get my skis out and build a kicker wherever i can find some snow. Now im at uni over in england which has such a good set up of dryslopes and artificial snow it has really improved my riding but i still love it when im home over christmas and it nearly always snows and its so good to get the skis out then. Only just stumbled across this thread but if anyone thinks they might be up for a little session next time it snows then give me a shout Smile
