Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Permasnow Advice

Thought I'd get back in the swing of things before our proper trip with a visit to my local dry slope in Bracknell.
Bracknell has a Permasnow surface which behaves almost nothing like snow, but it is white I guess.

Last time I was there was about two years ago with a group of friends, all OK skiers, but we all fell over a lot so I wasn't expecting an easy time.

The plan was to just do a few drills but had to abandon that, couldn't get anything to work, hire skis with no edge and no wax so it was all stick or skid with no middle ground.

I'm not intending giving up just yet and could either try again with and take some liquid wax along for the rental skis or go the whole hog and use my own skis .
If I take my own how much slope time can the skis take before needing a service?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Don't.

Unfortunately, from my experience, that is the best tip for skiing on 'Permasnow'... Sad

The only tips I`ve got about skiing on permasnow is,

go when it's raining,

if the skis they provide are not good enough take them back and ask for a different set (I was surprised the different standard of hire skis, even the same make).

there should be some mats with silicon on them, put plenty of it on your skis.

Of dry ski slopes i prefer the older diamond pattern matt slope which i can do parallel turns on quite easily, but permasnow i have to work quite hard at it. especially if the carpet type permasnow has been laid less then perfectly. Sad

bargainbill, they had a mat with some stuff on it a couple of years ago, I guess that was silicon or equivalent, didn't see anything this time around. I'll ask next time.

I could use my brothers skis rather than mine they're a bit more suitable but there's the obvious moral dilemma Twisted Evil

Cheers everyone,

Went back for another dice with death at the weekend.

Took my brothers skis, but they held up pretty well, they'll have a service before he gets them back. They also put the mats out with silicon this time.

Much better this time, could actually side slip. Not an awful lot of carving going on but a pretty useful session and left with a smile on my face so bit of a result.
