Poster: A snowHead

Hi guys
We have off piste guide books for Chamonix, 3 Valleys and Val d'Isere/Tignes and in April we are off to Zermatt/Cervinia and would love to find a quide book for this area.
So far I can't find anything and the pistehors site only lists routes in France.
Anyone got any sources of off piste route info around the Matterhorn?
cheers

There are guidebooks available for the are I think, I've seen them in the local store. They may be more tours than list served off-piste though. You can try this site, http://www.baechli-bergsport.ch/default.asp which will have some.

snowcat,
The area of Cervinia is great in good snow as you can ski massive amounts between the lifts and pistes and the Italians largely leave this alone or will join you once you have made tracks. Maybe a guide would maximise this but you don't get too much of a sensation that you are away from the crowds. If you like Heli ski you may try the Monterosa which is a glacial ski and great day out rather than great off-piste. Easily do-able from Cervinia. There are other options, like Chateux des Dames which is a very good intro to heli-skiing...and it cost us about £70.00 pp. If you are useful you will be down this very quickly. There are leaflets in the resort which advertise these trips.
Our contact was to find the Piolet Hotel just up the hill from the cable car, You can see it from the car park at the entrance to the viallge. the brothers have a ski shop just over the road which I can't remember the name of, and go from there. The guide was Marco who is an amazing Off-piste skier. The family has racing ties... !!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

snowcat, I have a book. Its called 'Freeride II - Fuori di Traccia' (off the beaten track) and provides off piste routes for Cervinia, Courmayeur,La Thuile, Pila, Champorceher, Gressoney and Alagna. I bought it on the main drag in Cervinia in one of those general purpose souvenir/tat/kitsch shops we frequent for those oh so important fluffy toys. An English translation is provided. Maybe the best thing to do is copy the title and ask in the shops.
