 Poster: A snowHead

Hi,
I am new to this forum but looking through all the wealth of knowledge reckon I could be on here alot!! We are off to Chamrousse in 3 weeks never been there before although been to other places. This is the first time we are driving to resort rather than being bussed from trhe airport. So my questions are....
1 Do we need snow chains?
2 Has anyone been there and can give me some info ie good places to eat, a review of good and bad points etc etc infact anything that you know!
We are a group of two families of boys between 9-12yrs old all can ski so anything interesting to do?

1. Only if it snows.
2. When I was there we frequented a bar in which every available surface was covered in stuffed wildlife with little beady eyes. Although when I think about it, some of them might have been customers in fact.

From one Katski to another....
When we last went there was a little cafe at the bottom of the slopes in which all the seat covers seemed to be the same material that used to be found on busses....
I can't comment on the food but they made a very nice hot chocolate! 
It was also snowing heavily when we were driving up and our chains did come in handy!

It would make sense to have snowchains if driving to any ski resort - in fact, isn't it compulsory to have them with you on most mountain roads in winter, just in case they are necessary.
The cross country area is pretty nice, and the cafe did ok food last time I was there (nearly 6 years ago!)
And as Grenoble is a short drive away, prices in the resort (at least when I have been) are pretty competitive.
Also, with the proximity of Grenoble, you could always go down there for dinner, if you can't find the right food in resort.
And if anyone gets bored of the skiing the French Revolution started just at the bottom of the hill, and they have a good museum .

Apparently the library at the Chateau de Vizille also contains a complete set of Cassini maps, though I don't think you're allowed to get them out and look at them, unfortunately.

I have been there only once (In fact this is the only place I have skied. I have only just started ski-ing and I'm devastated I have left it so late in my life to start but I am now throwing myself at it with gusto!!!!!!!!!) but am going back this weekend and cannot wait.
I can't advise on the snow chain issue as we went up in a bus with Thomsons. It was a little hairy as it had snowed that morning but felt safe enough as the roads were constantly being cleared. That's the reason it took us 2 hours to get there instead of the hour quoted in the brochure!!
Can you tell me what level of skiers you and your group are? It'll help me give you more information.
You could also have a look on tripadvisor as there are some good forums there, some of which I may have contributed to all ready!!!
