Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

1st Ski trip

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi
I am going on my 1st ski trip in Feb to Vallandry .Has any one being there this year yet? My concern is with the state of the £ it will be expensive to eat out and buy food, is this the case? Is food and drink in the super market if any expensive? Please put me out of my misery so I can concentrate on worrying about breaking my bones or worse! Not my wallet
Thanks

gazmoz, welcome to snowheads. Vallandry is a great choice - have a read of this thread, the adventures of a chap living out that way for the season

gazmoz, Not much help but if you thinkl it's going to be expensive (think of a number and add half as much again) then when you don't spend so much you will think you've saved money Laughing

halfhand, Laughing you're such a Pollyanna! Laughing

gazmoz, Are you staying half board or self catered? If catered (breakfast and dinner), you might be able to talk the chalet staff into doing you an extra fried egg at breakfast and popping it in some bread for lunch wink . If self catering, the supermarket is only going to be marginally more expensive than normal. Sure you'll be fine Very Happy and welcome to snowHead

 You know it makes sense.

gazmoz, welcome to snowheads and skiing. snowHead However, the simple answer to your initial question is yes, it will be very expensive to eat or drink in restaurants/bars. Beer bought in the supermarket will be a whole heap cheaper. At the current exchange rate a SMALL beer and some chips will cost you £5-6.

Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

Generally French ski resorts are a rip-off in their pricing so like someone's said, expect the worst so when it's not actually that expensive, you'll feel good (and then probably spend what you 'saved' on a big night out!!).

To be fair, these days you can get decent value at the supermarche (SPAR, Casino) and eating out is a case of finding a good compromise between value and quality. Staff will usually point you in the right direction Smile

Don't fret about it though - just enjoy your time on the slopes, get ready to start planning the next holiday the day you come back, and remember - don't eat yellow snow!!!! Very Happy Very Happy
