Poster: A snowHead
|
Staying in la plagne, with hire car, and fancy a day skiing with the oligarchs in courchevel. Interested in steep reds and occ blacks if not too bumpy. Free parking a bonus. Le praz or la tania look like good compromises. Any recommendations. Have tried searching threads with no success

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Might be easiest to park at 1300, Le Praz, and get the cable from there. I suspect there's more and cheaper parking there in one of the back roads by a chalet. Will mean a bit of a walk to the cable car but it goes straight up to 1850.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

There's plenty of free parking in Brides-les-Bains which is easy to drive to and is just a hop and a skip from Courchevel. But here's the rub: the Olympe bubble takes 25 minutes to carry you to the base of the slopes (mind you, driving up those wiggly roads and finding a parking place must take nearly as long) and, at the end of the day, you MUSTN'T miss the last bubble down or you're hitching or in for an expensive taxi ride.
waltond, you must only be just down the road. I'm near the new SH Primary.

There is a big free car park in La Tania which is just a short walk to the bubble; very easy.

Chances are there will be less queues for the gondola in La Tania too. Le Praz is a popular coach drop off especially at weekends.
While the La Tania gondola seems to be almost wind proof - often open when all other non-surface lifts are shut - there's also the La Tania drag lift option to get over to 1850 or Meribel.

waltond, Turn left at the roundabout by the Forum in 1850 and drive up the hill. You can park on the road after the short tunnel.

waltond, If the roads is reasonably clear, drive all the way up to CV1850, park in the underground car park there. Its located under thye Criosette (main lifts in the cente), you walk out of the car park to the lifts! Cost 10e per day approx , i only used it on a week stay before. No issues in missing last lifts down the hill, no issues with poor snow or lower slopes closed\icy.
Timewise, if the roads are clear it wont be much difference to waiting in the queues at the lower resorts. Most of the tougher pistes are above 1850. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks all for advice, Parked 1 day at La Tania, Big free car park close to lift, then second day at Le praz small carpark, bit of a walk. Did not go up to 1850 as snow predicted both days, but it never arrived, Amazing skiing, even more amazing prices in the mountain resturants
