Poster: A snowHead

Will be arriving in Grenoble on 7 March (luckily by train!) on way to oz. Does anybody perhaps know if there is a Decathlon store in town? Can't make out head or tails on their french website. Any other skishops worth while in Grenoble?

lizski, there are two, but the most convenient one for you would be the La Tronche one. It is on the excellent tramway which runs from outside the railway station. You need line B in the direction of Gieres. (Plaine des Sportes) http://www.sedeplacer-tag.fr/Lignes/PLAN_A.pdf . 1.40€ per trip, excellent value, and runs every few minutes during the week and every 15 at weekends. Takes about 10 minutes from the station.

Wow, thanks. Should have joined snowheads long ago and saved myself a lot of research. Do find the French websites often dont have other language options.

lizski, I only know cos I spent three days travelling on the tram to the hospital to visit my hubby there at new Year. I am now an expert on Grenoble's tram way. There's a Rip Curl clothing store in the centre of town too (you'll pass it on the tram) but can't remember seeing any others.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

lizski, There are a few ski shops in the town itself too, one called Go Sport which is one of the other large French chains, it is walking distance from the station. There is also a massive shopping complex at Echirolles which has a few also.

lizski, don't write off the shops in Alpe d'Huez if you are buying ski gear. They are quite often not as as expensive as you would expect because there is so much competition in the resort. I could particularly recomend Rocky Sports in Alpe d'Huez, it's a family run shop and Bernard is no averse to doing a deal.
