Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Cheap(ish) accom in Verbier that is not in a bomb shelter?

We're kicking around the idea of heading to Verbier for Easter. We have friends in Lausane to visit as well. Apart from the bunker, accommidations just look to be absurdly expensive, and my better half is not going to be pleased with the idea of sleeping in a dorm. Does anyone have any tips? At the moment, we're actually starting to lean towards staying (for free) in Lausane and just putting up with the 2 hour train ride each day.

if you want to stay in a decent place in verbier around easter you'll be lucky to get away with CHF 350 per room. There are very few hotels in verbier and they're the cheapest option apart from bomb shelters snowHead the rest of the accomodation is bascially even more expensive chalets

i think that farinet offers the best price/quality ratio. Cal them and bargain, though your chances of getting a discount around easter will be limited

My advice: a week for a couple in verbier will cost over £1,500. If your budget is significantly less than better go elsewhere....

Stay in Nendaz? or Le Chable?

Verbier is getting more expensive/popular each year - this year is the first in 5 that we won't be staying there for at least one of our ski weeks.

Makes me laugh though as most the visitors stick to the pistes and if you do that there are far better resorts out there to go to (3V for a start), that said the Apres in Verbier is just about the best I've seen.

Hmm. Sticker shock is starting to set in.

Upon doing some further research, it turns out I can get a train from Lausanne at 7:20 that arrives in Le Chable a few minutes before the gondola up to Verbier starts running. That's not too bad, and given the price difference between FREE and MUCH MORE THAN FREE, that's they way I'm leaning. I can live with a 1:15 train ride between Lausanne and Le Chable. I just hope I'm not one of several hundred people with the same idea. Now time to start convincing my girlfriend.

You're right about the bunker being bleak and oppressive, but they also have the summerhouse, which has several private rooms (shared bathrooms though). They also do cheap meals and bar and use of the sports centre pool. It's the wrong end of town for the lifts but there's a free bus and the stop is right outside.

wink

Look into Le Chable if you want to do Verbier on a budget, or haggle with some of the smaller operators. Speaking to a couple of them that I know business is not huge this season, although Easter is of course always popular

Thanks for the advice. I'll look into those options.

Meanwhile, I've booked the flights, so one way or another the trip will happen.

Best place without a doubt ami in berlin to stay in Verbier is the fabulous Club Hotel Verbier.

Got a week out there for end of jan for £330.

This will be our 3rd time staying there.

It's smack bang right in the middle of the town but most importantly it's right next to the best pub in the Alps by a country mile The Farinet!
Coming in a very close second is the nightclub just across the road The Casbah!

PM if you want details of how to get a great deal.

Very Happy
