Poster: A snowHead

OK. We've got our flights booked to Geneva (9 March) and we're looking for somewhere suitable for a couple of intermediate riders. There seems too much choice - we're looking at Flaine, Chamonix and almost everywhere else.
Anybody got any good ideas ? We usually go to Italy.
I'm a bit worried that Chamonix could be too difficult for us. Flaine looks good but I can't find any accommodation yet (short break).
Ideas welcome.
James.

Try Megeve, not very high but not many flat areas if my memory is correct. lots of hotels and you are going out of the french holidays.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

icicle, For Flaine try phoning Astrid Immobilier on +33 4 50 90 86 41. Also try www.expedia.co.uk or www.maeva.com who rent out apartments in Flaine. There are not too many flats in Flaine apart from the top of the Grand Plattieres which can be a pain even on skis!

icicle, we have space for a couple of people in our chalet Le Mouflon in La Rosiere 1850 in that week. Have a look at our ad in snowShops or go to www.tracksvacations.com where you'll find full contact details.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

icicle, i've replied more fully over on the boarding forum - Avoriaz, Morzine, Chatel, Les Gets (the main resorts of the Portes du Soleil) would be my recommendation. I have done many short breaks to Chatel.

Thanks for all the replys and info.
It looks like I need to choose between the Portes du Soleil and Flaine and I think I'm leaning towards the latter due to the better snow record etc.
Anyone know of some decent (but not too expensive) accommodation in or near Flaine that does short breaks ??
James.

there, you have hit on the problem of choosing Flaine over Porte du Soleil.....accomodation. P d S towns are much nicer places to stay with more choice of accomodation IMHO. You can drive to Flaine from morzine easily within an hour, best of both worlds.

ian bloomfield, that's easy to fix, don't stay in Flaine, it's not the a good drive, stay in Les Carroz, Morillon or Samoens instead. F
Bois du Char in Les Carroz comes recommended, I only know it as somewhere to have lunch but people like it as a hotel.
