Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What is Pontrosina like?

Any info regarding skking in Pontrosina greatly received. Mrs Brian T used to go there during summer holidays as a child (a looooong loooong time ago) and we are thinking of checking it out for skiing.

Brian T, it's Pontresina but the link in snowBase to the official website isn't working. Google also threw up the busted link and this one from goski.com

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

With St Moritz (which is high, and has some great skiing) on the doorstep it would be well worth a ski. I've not skied Pontresina, but St Moritz also has some very beautiful mountainscapes around it.

Pontresina itself has two ski areas. Diavolezza and Lagalb, which are both a short way outside Pontresina on the top of the Bernina Pass. Both areas are small but interesting! Both have a single gondola serving them (Diavolezza also has a drag lift I think). The skiing in Diavolezza is good for beginners and intermediates. The skiing on Lagalb is amazing if you get it on a good day. I spent one of the best days skiing in my life there when we spent the night in a 'lager' on the Bernina and we spent the entire following day doing the front side of Lagalb in 40cm of fresh powder... brilliant. Not sure what it's like on the piste's there. They are marked as being red.
If you are a good skier and want to do something unusual then you can do the 10KM run from the top of Diavolezza through the Morteratsch glacier. It's a marked and controlled ski route. Definitely worth doing if it's open. You have to catch the train back up the valley, so it's really only something you can do once a day.
Other than that, Pontresina is right next to St. Moritz so there is a really excellent skiing there if the Diavolezza doesn't keep you happy for a week...

Be warned. It can get really miserably cold up there!
