Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski tow technique for little kids

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We skied at la Rosiere over Christmas and Sam kept having a problem with 2 of the tows, as there wasn't much snow and he's quite little and light, so he kept finding himself falling off the button as it lifted him up in the air (not at the start, but in the main part of the tow).

The trick is to lean forward and hug the bar, with the head as far forward as possible. This pushes the button towards the body and presses it to you, so when lifted off the ground you don't fall off. The next skill is to learn to twist so that skis are always put down facing forward. By the end of the week Sam could manage all tows confidently, he had even survived a full 360 degree turn on a steep section running alongside a short black run.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I remember one or two aerial experiences on Poma lifts as a kid. Scary.

Sam's a star for conquering the problem. Jane, How did you work out those techniques? They're very interesting.

Jane L, we had the same with our youngest, who is 8 but small and light for her age. She was literally lifted in the air for 30m + on some poma lifts and she also began to rotate. On one particular lift it was impossible for her to land again with skis facing forward and she ended up clinging on and being dragged the last 50m or so. She was OK about it, I was a nervous wreck!!

When this is happening I reckon the lifties should let you go up in tandem with an adult or older bro/sis adding the necessary weight to keep everyone on the drag.
I'm a hefty bloke but even I've achieved lift off at some drag starts. The worst problem for adult males is if there is any downhill stretch where you slide a bit quicker than the drag and the pole goes vertical. And it's not your nose you need to worry about. wink

Why is it that lifties won't let you go pillion on poma's with your own children? This was a bit of a problem for the first few lifts in Italy a couple of years ago.

Marc, most lifties will as they realise it's the only way the child can get to the top.
Janel I know that drag, there are adult skiers I know who won't go on it.
