Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A leading German politician, Dieter Althaus, has been badly hurt and a woman has died after they collided while skiing in central Austria. The accident occurred yesterday at the Riesneralm ski area in Upper Styria. Orthopedic surgeon Christoph Collersbeck has reported that Althaus suffered injuries to the skull and brain, with minor bleeding in the brain, and that he is in an artificially induced coma but that his injuries do not seem to be life-threatening....Source: http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2009/01/01/europe/EU-Austria-Ski-Accident.php

Just to add more from German radio reports this morning:

Althaus is the Minister-President of Thuringen in the former East Germany.

There was a collision between him and a woman only identified as an American citizen born in Slovakia. He was wearing a helmet, she was not. She died en route to the hospital. He was initially determined to be OK, but started showing symptoms of head injuries later in the day and was taken to hospital, where he was put into an induced coma and is awaiting surgery. His injuries are not now considered to be life threatening.

There was no report of who is at fault for the collision.

My girlfriend has informed me that I will be getting a helmet for my birthday.

Althaus is apparently being investigated for manslaughter. He emerged from his coma yesterday and was due to be questioned by police, although doctors said that due to the nature of his injuries it was unlikely he would remember the accident. Last night (sunday) he had not yet been informed of Christandl's death.

God, how terrible these stories are. Interesting quote from the end of the article, I thought:
Quote:
According to the Austrian Committee for Traffic Security, 80% of all collisions on the slopes happen as a result of people overestimating their own abilities and mistakes in technique. Most are caused by men.
