Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Short trip planned - report to follow!

OK, managed to secure daft low price flights from Stansted to Friedrichshafen early Thursday 8th Jan to late Saturday 10th. Me, my two daughters and my mum (!) are going and will travel via public transport to Au in the Vorarlberg. B&B secured at reasonable enough prices. Trip report and costs will follow as they transpire. As it's a well-served route it might prove handy for those that fancy short breaks. It's not a day trip feasible resort though - even with good connections or a car, it would be near to noon before you could get to Au. We *should* hopefully get 2.5 days on the piste.

Wish me luck... oh and happy new year to you all!

carled, looks like a promising spot for a few days, have a good one!

A bit of an undiscovered area from UK point of view, though looks like Arnie Wilson's been there:

I've often wondered about the Bregenzerwald area as it's so handy for cheap Friedrichshafen flights, let us know how you get on! snowHead

carled, enjoyed the report... prices in resort very reasonable too, do you think this is down to being less "touristy"?

Yes indeed. It's not a huge ski area (50-ish km?) but more than enough for a couple of days. With powder that could easily be 3 to 4 days because of the vast bowl a lot of the area is set in. It's much more a "locals" resort than a major destination resort, so I suppose they keep the prices sensible because of that. I get the feeling that 90% of the clientele is German and most of that from south of Stuttgart. It has a few mega resorts (St. Anton, Lech, Zurs, Ischgl) very close by, so maybe those places sweep up all the international tourist trade.
