Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

the local decent wine is cotes du rhone, which can be genuinely very very good rather than "not bad considering" like savoyarde wines

beers - usual kronenbourg stuff in the bars. there used to be a micro-brewery near briancon which did some nice beers. might be worth looking out for in the supermarkets. there's one with a bit of genepi in it which is lush

Northern France does have a tradition of brewing ale (as opposed to lager) type beers, where they are called Bière de Garde. Two of the best known bottled ones ones widely available throughout France are Jenlain and Ch'ti - careful how you pronounce the last one! Toofy Grin

There is a microbrewery in Chamonix (I don't mean the Canadian brewpub place) whose beers are sold pretty widely through the valley. Good stuff.

Desperados, beer with tequilla in it. Not my brewski of choice but whatever floats your boat I guess.

Mutzig (not sure where it originates from but is brewed by Heineken) can be found in a few French resorts and is worth a try. Around 8% so you get two pints for the price of one.

Pelforth isn't bad for a regular lager, sold all over France. "Pelforth and multiply" we used to say. Then we discovered Mutzig Laughing

For the drink of champs, get a half pint of mutzig in a pint glass and top up with smirnoff ice and a shot of tequilla. The most I've seen anyone drink of these is 8. After 4 I had no idea who I was or where I was Confused
