Helen Beaumont, glad to hear that your travel arrangements are all sorted, hopefully the stress will ease slightly once you're all back at home and in one place.

brilliant brilliant news...
I'd second Nick Ls suggestion, unless your local A&E is in a hospital with a neurosurgery unit - may be easier to go via your GP. Often have to arrange follow-up for skiing injuries.

Helen Beaumont, Oh my i just found out. How terrible for both of you, i totally appreciate the worry and the journeying to grenoble as have been through it with liam, but it is a fantast hospital and he was most certainly in good hands.
I understand you are home now, and i hope things are going well.
Due to liam being in the competing business i know far to many people who hvae broken backs and necks, including my hubby just over a year ago. thank god they have all made a good recovery, i prey this is the same for Jules.
Best wishes, thinking of you

Sorry to hear of the accident - but I feel that any guy who can ski back down after such an acccident will most certainly be fit and back on the Piste next season( if not before!)Sending lots of love and best wishes for a speedy recovery x

Helen & Jules , I only just saw this thread, so sorry to hear of the accident, so pleased it's all turned out OK. Best wishes to Jules for a quick recovery.
For Jules I recommend regular doses of relaxation, sympathy and beer. Helen can you peel grapes?

Got back to blighty last night courtesy of B A business and much champagne (for medicinal purposes)
Thanks to everyone for the huge amount of sympathy and support we have received, I am truly touched, as those who know me already are aware.
Thanks for all the help and advice. Of course biggest thanks to Helen, who I think is trying not to let everything get on top of her (I certainly cant at the moment)
I have had the easy job of having to lie still for 7 days.
I am now trying to find out what I need to do to get back as quick as possible for skiing, mountain biking and squash
It's been an alternative New Year. If any one is thinking of having a spinal injury (woe betide), can I recommend they have one near Grenoble?
They made my broken neck seem as routine as a dental filling, and it's the first time I've had my back bottom wiped for me since I was two (without having to pay).
Thanks again for every ones support. I'll take that Oscar now!

ickabodblue, Thats the wonderful thing about internet communities, you dont actually need to know people to get on and have a connection. I use a forum (football related) which is like a running soap opera of friendships, cat-fights, meet-up's, romance etc (and thats just me ).

JulesB & HelenB, sorry to get back to read that this happened on your trip, but glad to hear that things are on the mend.
Similar(ish but not very) thing happened to H a couple of years ago (on boxing day, no less), although his fracture was much lower down near the middle of his spine. He too skied off the hill and in terms of recovery, was very lucky, as it was a stable fracture, and he was on his feet (gingerly) in a matter of days, and skiing within 6 weeks.
Whilst what you have might be a bit more delicate, here's hoping for a similarly 'routine' recovery getting you back to normal activities soon.
We were also very impressed with how the hospital handled things, props to all those alpine medics who efficiently handle brits with sliding injuries day in day out.
