Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Anyone done this trip by air, then train from Salzburg to Obertauern? How long did it take you? Suggestions for best accommodation (half board) Puzzled

sharon1953,
You can get train from Salzburg to Radstadt, then bus or taxi to Obertauern. Better still, if there's a few of you travelling, get a taxi (some hotels provide one) all the way from the airport - it takes about an hour and the cost is quite reasonable. Loads of good accommodation. see here

thanks for info, we had actually got as far as the tourist board site, and new about the train etc, just wondered if anyone on here had actually done it.

Sharon,

Never done it but just looked at the ÖBB internet timetable. http://www.oebb.at/

On Saturdays the timetable is

14:46 Salzburg airport
15:07 Salzburg main train station.

Change trains
200m footway to next train

15:17 Salzburg main train station.
16:35 Radstadt

Another 100m footway to No 780 bus stop (this bus is free if you already have a valid ski pass)

16:45 Radstadt
17:13 Obertauern PaßHöhe

So all in all 2.5 hours on 2 trains, one bus with a 200m and then 100m brisk walk inbetween. Probably best to have bags and ski carriers with wheels.

Alternatively a taxi will take approx 1hr 15 min, best to book before and fix a price.

Hope this helps

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks for that, not quite as simple as getting on a train at Salzburg Airport and then hopping off in the resort!! But it will be worth the effort if it saves a lot of money - otherwise it's back to the drawing board!

Of course it needs to snow in Europe first and it's not looking good at the mo, they could do with bussing it in from the states!!! Sad
