Poster: A snowHead
|
Just back from a week at Tignes Le Brevieres and experienced a strange phenomenon one morning at the gondola station. Perhaps I am missing something with the ski protocol?
Two English men in front of us in the busy queue split their elderly skis to put them in four holders in the outside gondola rack thereby taking up 4 of the 6 places, leaving a partly filled gondola and a still busy queue behind. Has anyone else experienced such strange behavior?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

harry, fat skis don't fit in the ski racks unless you split them.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I sometimes split my skis if I'm on twin tips and the ski racks are quite small. If it's really busy the lifties put the skis back together into one slot (which I often fail to do ) so that more people can get into the cabin.

harry, twin tips often need splitting as the slots are often not desingned for fat tailed skis

Interesting! Absolutely normal skis, a bit elderly so just a little carving or near straight and fairly narrow. Not twin tiped at all.

I've had that in les gets on the main gondola, I think it was so other people didn't get in with them or something. And just the same as harry said these people were using normal ski's I was on twin tips and had no problems getting them in together
Some people are just a bit wierd!

I FREAKING HATE when lifty's try and put both of my twin tips in one ski holder, thus damaging the ski. I have on occasion been known to get back out and seperate them again. And yes I've had friends who's skis have been damaged by lifty's doing this.

Depends on how long the lift queue is, I guess.
If the queue isn't too long, I'd just get in the next one and have the space to myself or with my mates.
But if the queue is long, I'd just split mine and put them in the same slot as theirs. And I'll be sure to be REALLY slow in getting up and collecting my skis, given they can't get to theirs until I pull mine out...

They could have done it to prevent them being stolen ?
like JT said, sounds like a selfish way of having the lift to themselves so they can smoke a little pot.
