Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just watching a news conference with one of the survivors. He was dug out of the first slide by one of those who did not survivie the second one. Quite unbelievable that any of them got out when they were hit by two avalanches and actually witnessed 4. When the second avalanche hit they had actually removed much of their gear because they we digging for others. One particularly hard decision that they had to make was for two of them who had managed to dig themselves out of the second slide, to leave a third person buried alive and calling to them because they heard a third 'crack'. They did return and free him once they realised that the third slide had missed them. The avalanche centre and survivors have indicated that the slides were travelling at up to 150 km/h at up to 15 feet high and half a kilometer wide.

There will always be those who say that they should not have been in high risk areas, but they were all equiped with the right gear, and they assessed the risk and deliberately stayed low. There was no indication that they or anyone else triggered any of the slides. It is just a very sad accident that has taken 8 young men from one small town, my thoughts are with them, the survivors and the families.
