Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

France Shops Opening Hours April 10th (Good Friday)

Do shops in France 'generally' have restricted opening on Good Friday? (10th April 2009)
I cannot find anything to show they do. We're travelling to Val Thorens on the Friday and intend to 'shop' on the way.
In our Dec vist to VT we were surprised at the range of supplies available in the supermarket in the VT centre. We also stopped at a Chambery supermarket, en-route, its fresh produce was also excellent. British supermarkets are a poor in comparrison.

Shops in France are generaly closed on Good Friday, resort shops may be open with restricted hours. If you know the shops name try Google, some have websites with opening hours, but don't forget according to snowHeads France is a rip off wink

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Boredsurfing, Shame if they are, theres no specific supermarket that we're after but probably somewhere between Lyon and Albertville. Food prices and and fresh produce quality ae far from a rip off. Resort prices are, but then the equivalent altitude in the UK is like looking for a Tesco on Snowdon or Ben Nevis.

BMF_Skier, Laughing I agree with you on some resort prices but as you say what would be the cost of a bowl of spag bowl at the top of Ben Nevis even if you could get one wink
If you can remember the name of a supermarket google them, maybe use Pages Jaune (yellow pages) and the town you are planning to stop at, I can't even remember the name of the large supermarkets in Chambery etc Embarassed There is a Lidl in Moutier if that helps...

Boredsurfing, I've been looking but finding the correct page on the web sites is a little difficult. The basic hours is usually no issue but it the advanced holiday thats the challenge.
I've seen on the BBC website that only certain French departments count Good Friday as a holiday. Departments 57,67,68
Looks like we'll be in Chambery by early evening on 10th so that's the target area for the holiday shop, although anywhere en-route from Calais would also suit.

That's correct, Good Friday isn't a national holiday in France. The only people who take it off are the "germanics" - Alsace Lorraine.

davidof,That'll make shopping a lot easier. We can do the shop en-route and manage the time accordingly. I still wish my French was upto navigating the supermarket web sites.

genepi, Thats the one I have called into on a couple of occasions already. Was there a few weeks ago with Megamum. Its at the far end of our travel time window. We wouldnt be there until after 8:00 pm at the earliest and would have to re-jig travel times. Plan was to overnight nearby and be in resort for 8:00 am on the Saturday.
