Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snow in Niederau

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We are 2 families going to Niederau on 20 December 2008 and I have been watching the live web cam that is on 'The Auhof' a chalet in Niederau, it looks like they have lots of snow but starting to panic when I have been reading all the posts on snowheads and other sites showing the resort is still closed! I have checked with Inghams who we have booked hotel with including all area lift pass, ski school for six days, boots and ski hire and they advised that I need to check with insurance company if we are covered for piste closure and we may then be covered if we are unable to ski. It's only the second time my family has skied and first time for our friends and I feel really bad, as I booked everything! Could someone please reassure me that we will get some more snow!!!
Thanks Debbie

Welcome to Snowheads snowHead

Methinks you are panicking unneccessarily - if you checked Les Arcs today you will find that 'all pistes are closed' despite the fact that there's enough snow to ski down to Bourg St. Maurice, and it's likely tomorrow that most things will be open (1st day of season), depending on avalanche protection. Resorts choose an 'opening day' based on their historical snowfalls. Very very few resorts open prior to 'opening day' unless they are 'day catchment' of a big city and have an effective method of spreading the word, and it's often limited in the number of runs. They don't open early as the economics don't make sense - if there aren't any customers then they won't make any money.

The Tour Ops won't be sending you out until the resort is officially open - therefore it's safe to assume that the 20th is opening day for Niederau and therefore the above applies.

Don't Panic and enjoy the holiday - please post a trip report in the trips section on your return

Hi Debbie,

You have been looking at the web cam from my house, the Auhof! Please don't panic as we are due to open next saturday and it is looking good so far. There are huge amounts of snow cannons making the stuff furiously all the time and the forecasts are all good.

We left the UK last year and bought the Auhof, having been to Niederau every year since I was a small child and have always been able to ski. Of course, some years are better than others. but there is no reason to suppose you will not have enough snow - really!

Glad you have been watching from our web cam and hope you have an excellent time here in Niederau.

Best wishes,

Carolyn (new to snowheads, too!)

Hi Cathy and Parallel lines,

Thanks for your welcomes! I will start the weather thread right away. Everyone here is busy preparing for the start of the season and there is a huge buzz in the village now. There is loads of snow at the moment but if you look on the web cam after dark and go to Tennladen you will see lots of lights right up the mountain. These are all snow cannons, so nobody is taking any chances! Enjoy your visits and I would love to know how you get on.

Cheers, Carolyn

Frosty and Luigi, thanks for your welcome Smile Debbie has started something here, mentioning Niederau for sure. Lechbob, Herbert has been extending the Harfenwirt this summer and now has about 60 more beds - very impressive it looks, too. We are expecting snow today so will let you all know when it starts.
Cheers, Carolyn

Debbie,

Just to put your mind further at rest, we had big snow last night and it is still snowing this morning, set to carry on apparently over the weekend. Enjoy your visit, hope all goes well for you. If any of the children in your party are going to the red ski school. do look out for our son Martin who is an instructor there!

Cheers, Carolyn
