Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

lots of new snow overnight but the webcam is currrently snowed up.

Glenridding and Keswick webcams are however showing snow down quite low which is an excellent sign.

The tow won't run today because of strong winds but good chance tomorrow.

South westerly wind over the last 24 hrs should have produced some decent drifts across the fences. yesterday on the summit of Cross Fell was full on winter !

Further accumulations during this week though a bit milder on Thursday. Its looking good Laughing Laughing

Raise should be open again on Friday and hopefully over the weekend.

There is a lot of snow building up with a general cover of 1m across the two main runs and much deeper drifts in places. Much of the snow fencing is now buried snowHead

Well Friday was the last day of lift served Pennine skiing for now, so time to head across to the big mountains snowHead

And things have been busy over at Raise. Today was day 39 of the season with one Member having skied 38 of those, 15 consecutively
Shocked Shocked
Despite the thaw last week there was some great skiing on offer with three runs open including the in condition, Hut Traverse.

Pics and report here.

It is not planned to run the tow tomorrow or Tuesday. Check with the snowline before travelling.

Looks like the cool down is now arriving late Monday.

Raise should be well placed to benefit from the first new snows next week. Its still hanging onto a good base. At Yad Moss and Weardale it's be starting more or less from scratch.

Hopefully the 'home' season has still got lots more skiing days left in it yet snowHead

Sideshow,

Not very often. Once every four or five years ?

It was skied last March or April and it has been skied this year along with quite a few other lines. It really needs a heavy fall of snow from the south followed by a cold spell to allow some build up.

You can get an idea of how steep it is from this picture. The pure line begines with your back against the trig point !

Arno, 55 degrees is getting to my limit Shocked unless perfect conditions, i suspect on a board it would be one turn and you arrive at the bottom literally on your bottom

I think it's not necessarily the steepness or narrowness, more the potential killer rocks/boulders under the surface that would make it an awkward ski/board.

The tow didn't run at the weekend which was particularly annoying after all that powder on Thursday and Friday. Saturday was a rainlashed nightmare and Sunday was an extraodinary day of graupel blizzards and violent storms. For five minutes, it seemed like 30, I was pinned against a cairn on Whiteaside after having been blown off my feet. I've never experienced a squall as strong as that before. My map was blown into oblivion and was quite shaken up for a while afterwards Confused

The good news is that the snow has blown back into the run and there has been good skiing yesterday and again today by the look of it. Whilst the tow has run now for over 50 days I've still only managed 2 days so far this year....... because of all the skiing at Yad Moss . Hopefully i'll get my third day in and my money's worth for my season pass, before the end of March Laughing
