Anyone got any recommendations for good places to eat in the GM, especially Morillon. I've already booked lunch at the place halfway down the Cascades run where they tow you to the restaurant by snowcat. Any other recommendations very welcome? Google doesn't really throw up much. Budget not really an issue....credit crunch, pah what credit crunch?

Think it's called le Gite de Lac de Gers. The lady there said it was possible to reach the restaurant via an off-piste route. Will prob try that then.

Very good restaurant by the start of the Les Molliets lift, we will be going again this half term. Table service. There are a few others, but many self service, which I dont want to do. Try this one which you should find is pretty decent.

Oh and if you want a top meal in the evening, and prepared to Taxi to Samoens (down the same valley), go to the Neige et Roc Hotel, (going there again this year after a 4 year absence), just been voted 'The best resort restaurant in Europe' by Hardy's ski guide, ---- it was good and I'm hopin it lives up to its new found celebrity. Has a web site.

With Taxis, Les Carroz to Flaine not too bad, Morrillon to Samoens ok. Not between these two pairs though as the other side of the mountain! Missed the last lift in Les Carroz once, 120 euros by taxi round the mountain, - avoid!

Anybody know if Sept Freres is open for lunch and also, can you ski directly from there into LC or Morrillon?
Went there in the summer and looks like a fun ski down

You know it makes sense.
|
I'm pretty sure you can only ski down in to Morillon. Sairon chair will take you straight back to to top and then you can drop down in to Les Carroz from there.
Don't know if the restaurant is open. Haven't been over there.

Sept Freres (aka Jonny one tooths) is open for lunch...................... you can ski down to Les Carroz from it but not back to Morillon without a hike back to the marvel pist of a couple of hundred metres

Name escapes me but the one under the DMC in Flaine is very good (near the bottom)
Refuge de Gers very good - worth staying the night, much fun to be had!

Thanks all. The restaurant below the DMC in Flaine is called Epiceiere and I agree is great. Gers is fantastic but reliant on either Cascades or the drag being open to get out of the bowl.
marcellus, - thanks for the info re Sept Freres. Presumably the ski to LC is off-piste but is it tough, or could a relatively inexperienced off-pister do it? Also, it is obvious, and any flat/uphill parts?

Gite de Lac de Gers - anybody know if it is open in the summer, and if so, how easy it is to reach on foot?

Thanks Norris. Looks great, but probably too far with a couple of toddlers in tow! I was ambitiously hoping for a car park and 45 minute stroll!

err, yes you might get shot by the boss!
Igloo at the top of the Bergin chair, Morillon?
Thats open in summer, and its 30 seconds from the lift!

That sounds about right.
Slightly off topic, but has anybody been to the lake at Morrillon or the swimming pool in Samoens? Am looking for alternatives whilst the pool in Les Carroz is being rebuilt.
