Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm looking to buy some magnetic roof racks asap.
Has nyone used them?
The main things I want to know;
are they safe at high speeds?
are they safe to leave unattended?
which manufacturer would you recommend?

Many thanks, Matt.

Matt Exley, you normally get them with hire cars nowadays.

They're not bad - although I've never tanked down a motorway with them. Most of the ones I've used had a "safety strap" that you closed in the door.

Security depends on what you buy - I've used some that have no security and others that lock in a way that is supposed to stop them being stolen.

Matt Exley, Yes have used them. easy to use, work at high speed (130kph on autoroute). The two types i have used both need clip on metal loops to enable you to remove them, otherwise you could not get them off. However we thought a thief could easily by using a screwdriver pushed under the edge and make a mess of the roof.
One scratched the roof and you can't use them if snow/ice is on roof of car as we discovered on going home, so had to start off with skis and rack in car.

Sorry but can't remember the makes its too long ago Puzzled

We hired one once - very basic sort of thing but it did the job fine and felt quite secure. Can't remember how it locked - it did, though.

 Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Had then on a hire car in Switzerland a couple of years ago. No problems. Easy to setup and use. No issues with motorways speeds.
