I just wonder if people share my opinion that Speed Skiing is just dumb.
As I believe it requires no skill, except keeping your legs wide and firm. All other is just good suit and luck.
BTW, speed ski racers look funny, like those guys fighting radiation

fess, the current record is 251.4 km/h (156 mph), so you may call a speed skier slightly stupid but the sport is not dumb.
saying it requires no skill is wrong...... unless you have a very fast sports car you won't even come close to that speed but... try driving 100mph and wind down the window...... now stick your head out.
Saying they look funny does not count unless we have something to compare to..... try posting a picture of yourself for us to make a judgement.

fess, sure they look daft but I have limitless respect for those dudes. Sure they don't go round corners but I am sure keeping on going at 150mph+ requires a whole bunch of skill.

As said by others...try it, and see if you think it's so easy. MANY successful alpine racers have tried it thinking much the same as you...and found that it is NOT that easy. It is an easy sport to DO but a very difficult sport to be good at. Until you have tried it, you cannot appreciate the skills involved. It used to be an "extreme" sport but is now very much a "precision" sport. Skiing precisely and balancing risk, stability and speed at speeds in excess of 240kph takes judgement and control. Also, there is a whole set of skills requires to ensure that your career is not short; strength, flexibility, body awareness, skiing ability and agility all contribute to staying on your feet when things do go wrong.
So no...I don't share your opinion. I was a speed skier for 17 years and set my personal best (241.45kph; 150.1mph) in 2005. I also had the pleasure of competing with an incredible "family" of racers.

Are you able to ski you ski flat without putting it on edge for just 100 meters and at only 50km/h? I can bet you are not able to do this. So let's try not to talk about "requiring no skill".

fess, You, and others on this forum, may like to know that there are only three sports: hunting; shooting; and fishing. All the rest are games, pastimes or outdoor activities. This is another example of language being hijacked, in this case from a precise meaning, to a more general one. The other example that springs to mind is "gay" where a useful adjective has been (mis)appropriated by a minority group.

I think its not dumb, it does requires skill, AND courage. I dont think an ordinary person can handle that speed with out the right practice or courage.

John Clark (former racer/coach/Baxter manager/now commentator) was once a promising speed skiing contender, saw a recent "down memory lane" article in the paper about speed skiing and JC, talking about him skiing about his dad's farm feeding the beasts!

Interesting question which I don't have an answer too.
However one thing I can tell you about spammer mentality is that once you get an infestation in your blog, forum or otherwise it attracts other spammers as they see your blog as a soft touch. Spam breeds spam.
I can only assume these spammers search the web for words like "viagra" and when they come across blogs/forums that have not cleaned up spam see these as targets.
Contrary to popular belief about automated spam bots a lot of spamming is still done by humans, often based in Pakistan, Ukraine, Romania and the Philippines.
Anyway maybe just mentioning spam is enough to attract spammers?
