Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Anyone recommend good resorts within an hour please. We dont mind if not too lively as we have a baby with us.

minicat, my brother-in-law has relatives in Hinterstoder (about 40 miles south of Linz) and he & my sis went there in Jan, they said quiet slopes, good snow & very Austrian, more skiing at nearby Wurzeralm. They also went to Schladming (a lot more happening) for the night slalom race and a day's skiing, very impressed, said they wanted to return to explore more.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

On the whole, I would say head over in the Salzburg direction for the best routes to the skiing.

Nearish to Linz is the Dachstein-West-Krippenstein region or as luigi says Hinterstoder. A bit further away is Schladming which is really more of a resort. For your party though I would think Dachstein-West would be a good bet, small-ish and traditional villages etc.

Bear in mind that the route from Linz to a lot of the skiing involves going almost to Salzburg on the motorway and down again, or some mountain passes, as the Dachstein range os something of an obstacle!

Other places nearish to Linz but which I have no experience of are Kasberg to the south and Hochficht, north on the border of Germany and Czech.

I've been to Gosau in the Dachstein-West area in summertime, it was very pretty esp. up by the lake (Gosausee). Looks like a nice area for some relaxed skiing.
