Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Foundations laid for new Himalayan ski resort

Manali, a Himalayan ski mountain known for ski touring, heli-skiing and good snow into late spring, is to be developed as a lift-served ski area. The chief minister of the Himachal Pradesh government yesterday (Sunday 2 Jan) laid a foundation stone for developments which will include a gondola lift and mountain restaurant

This announcement is a further sign of increased ski activity in the Indian Himalayas. Construction of the second stage of the long-awaited gondola at Gulmarg - see this snowHeads thread - has been completed (though the lift is yet to open), and the Ford Motor Company is looking to invest in a new ski resort in the region - see this snowNews item.

And not to be outdone, Pakistan is planning to upgrade the facilities at one of it's 3 ski resorts Malam Jabba

The Ski Federation of Pakistan (SFP) plans to turn Malam Jabba resort into a modern skiing facility in the country, said Tanvir Mahmood Ahmad, the president of the federation, in an interview with Daily Times on Wednesday.

“After getting encouraging results from our youngsters in tournaments held in Iran, China, Turkey and South Korea, the SFP has decided to develop Malam Jabba to groom players for future,” he said.


One of the other resorts Kalabagh seems to be in a Pakistani Airforce Base and opened a whole month early this year. The other Naltar seems to be under army control and has 2 lifts only.
